Default It's about time I introduced myself.

Hi there,

My name is Rich, long time lurker but I'm finally coming out of the shadows. Until just recently, my "membership" in this forum was just wishful thinking. I have been lusting after an Arena Red 993 turbo ever since the summer of 96' and finally picked one up last month. It has been the fulfillment of a dream and I couldn't be happier. I think I should have stayed away from this forum for a while though as I'm acquiring upgrades by the minute! I already have PSS10's waiting to go on and I just pulled the trigger on Fabspeed supercup mufflers and sport cat X-pipe. I hope that I can hold off more purchases for a while, my wife wants a vacation this summer.

About the car...Obviously it's a 96' turbo in Arena Red with Cashmere interior and it had just over 47,000 miles when I got it. I purchased it from the original owner in Massachusetts. He ordered the car himself and lovingly cared for it until the day he reluctantly turned over the keys to me. I have all of the service records and even the original window sticker. It's fairly well optioned in the interior but I already know that most here won't dig it so I'll just share 1 pic Here is the window sticker as well. I was on the fence about the interior but I wanted to at least look at the car before passing judgement. I have to say that I LOVED it when I saw it. I don't have any hangups about just what a 911 should be so I was a little more open minded than most. I feel that the interior goes extremely well with the exterior color. Again, personal taste, so don't think you'll hurt my feelings when you say you don't like it. One rather odd option was the silver painted big red's. I don't believe I have ever seen another 993 turbo with silver calipers; I'm sure they are out there though.

Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself. I won't be a super active poster but I have been working on cars my whole life and have gained quite a bit of experience all over the automotive world. I worked as a car designer in Detroit for 7+ years, I helped my dad build 3 street rods, I have been knuckles deep in all kinds of vehicles, and even do some software tuning on the side (mostly domestic, not as a business). So I hope I can at least contribute a little to this fine little corner of the internet. Cheers

Very nice and congrats. My car has the factory "Titanium" calipers. Do as I did and delve into all the 993 stuff that you can. I am in sorta the same boat where I want to do as much as possible myself as opposed to paying someone (which I can't afford) to do it. Cars are fairly straight forward and pretty easy to work on, if you don't mind confined spaces and losing some skin. Enjoy and don't be afraid of the velocity while sliding down the VERY STEEP slippery slope. Take care

Thanks, I'm trying to get up to speed as soon as possible with this car. I'm not totally unfamiliar with 911's as I had an 06' C2s for 3 years. I definitely slipped down the slope on that one as I pretty much upgraded the entire suspension and did the complete AWE exhaust system. It was the easiest car I've ever worked on. I was sad to see it go but I knew that I would eventually get my hands on THE ONE (for me)

Congrats on the find! You waited a long time.

Some very nice and interesting options. $1416 for silver painted calipers!

Thanks Basel Skull! I'm fairly certain I won't be going anywhere NEAR as deep into modifications as you are, but it sure looks like fun! One thing I'm committed to NOT doing, even though I would love to, is tracking this car. That's where I got a little nutty with my 06'. I think that might be able to keep me form getting too ambitious with mods. I'm building a 944 SPEC car that will serve as my track car for a couple of years and will likely compete in SP1 and NASA regional events here and there. I'm hoping it will satisfy my track urges. If it doesn't, I'll either go for an LS motor swap and make it a HPDE only car, or I'll step up to a faster car/series.

Congrats! Personally I think Arena Red/Cashmere is one of the best combinations. As far as the rootwood, bat phone, etc... those are what makes the car unique. Somebody put some thought into the options, and Porsche made the car to their design through the exclusive program. This gives the car character. My car was also ordered with the titanium/black calipers.

That interior is amazing! It is different than most would accept, though I think that the wood perfectly compliments the exterior color. VERY classy looking car and surely one that wont get boring to look at. You will love your Fabspeed upgrades, thanks for the support!

Thanks for the positive comments guys! I figured there were plenty of Titanium big red owners here too Though the car was not necessarily optioned the way I would have done it, I do like the uncommon aspect of it. Not too many rootwood/ cashmere/ arena red turbo's out there I'm sure.
