Update.

I got a call from the seller that the Porsche shop it's at (he was going to pick it up on Saturday) that changed the oil filter and some hoses found something minor with the turbo that the seller is paying to fix now. He has been very honest and is motivated to get the car to Vinnie to prove to me it's in great shape. He even started using Vinnie for some other cars he has for sale.

So a few more days and it will go to Vinnie.

He even offered the phone # and invoices for the place it's at so I can speak with the mechanic working on it. It is a Porsche certified place, but it's not Vinnie...

And before someone says it, I'm going to let him fix his car where he wants since I don't own it yet. I'll let Vinnie check the work.

Update: the issue was on the oil filter return valve to the Turbo.

Is that a big deal???

My uneducated guess is this is a return valve from the turbo, but others will certainly have better info than I. Seems these cars are supposed to supply oil that collects in the turbo back to the sump. Sometimes this gets plugged up.

My 96tt got plugged, sent hot oil into the exhaust stream which was an unpleasant sight. Couple grand later, newly rebuilt turbos (and a couple other 'while you're in there's') and I was back on the road.

Update: the seller has had it in the shop now for a week and is currently replacing both turbo's. I think he took the car without doing his homework. By the time he's done replacing parts, it'l be a new car. I don't know if he's going to change our agreed upon price. He has been very honest all along. It's still going to Vinnie for a full once over when the repairs are done.

I'm just watching and waiting...

Not at all. When it comes to a good opportunity on a great car, I'll wait months. I'm in no rush...

The work is supposedly done and the car is going to be picked up tonight or tomorrow. Once that happens, it will get over to Vinnie for it's PPI.

If the PPi is good, I'm still pulling the trigger...

I'll keep you all posted. Sorry it's taking so long. I wasn't expecting this. But the seller is truly being honest and up front with me. He deserves my patience.

IMO you are doing everything right. Once the PPI comes back as clean as a whistle, you'll be good to go! No rush aye.

Thanks 993MAN.

I have a mileage question. With 58k miles, brand new turbos, and a clean PPI is this car as good as a very low mileage car (less then 30k miles)?

The car is back from the shop and going on Monday for it's PPI.

I just want to make sure I'm not making a mistake buying a 58k mile car and not spending another 10 grand to get into a sub 30k mile car. I am planning on putting a good 50 or 60k miles on the car as it will be my DD. So I will be turning 100k by the time I'm done.

With these cars, does it matter that much??

Thought I'd ask since I'm definitely pulling the trigger on this bad boy if Vinnie gives it his blessings.

i bought mine with 58k miles 5 1/2 years ago i have 83k now and besides replacing steering rack, clutch accumulator twice and the clutch slave, everything else has been elective surgery. i have no reservations on buying a higher mileage 993tt. Plus as i said before Vinnie is hands down the best or one of the best around.

58k miles is nothing to worry about imo...these cars 'age' better when driven

IMO low mileage cars have their own maintenance risks.

If the car is what you want and it passes the PPI, then the mileage vs cost is a wash.

IMHO, those with lower mileage are hesitate to drive it and put miles on it out of fear of destroying the low mileage value. At 30,000 and more it not that big of an issue. Hit the 40s and 50s, what the heck; drive it and enjoy it. I'll take the drive it and enjoy it. I have my investments in other areas.

hahahaha, 58k miles is barley run in
There are some threads somewhere about how many miles some guys have actually clocked up. It makes 58K sound almost like a brand new car.
All you have to do is keep the maintenance up, like with any decent car, and it should be a pleasure to own.
Porsche make em tuff remember.
