You guys have my number, it's located right at the bottom of my signature. Feel free to call me. These lines are a PITA.. As time permits I crank the lines out. Obviously failed turbochargers get the attention.

Patrick you have new turbochargers with little risk of failure. You will get you long awaited lines when I can crank them out for you. Call me if need be.

So sorry Kevin. I tried hard not to make it sound like I am impatient. No rush. Take your time. And of course your are right, it should be the customer chasing up the supplier. With gratitude, I stand corrected.

I found a workshop in Germany that does the proper bending of the 10mm inox tubes.
My approach is to just cut the existing pipes and solder a P - trap into it. sodler areas are reinforced by 12mm inox tube with 10 mm inisde diameter.
Here a picture of the P-Traps. I will post finished result in 2 weeks time when the workshop has done it.

not sure the loops would make much difference, if you start the syphoning and the exit is below the level of the oil in the crank, it will continue regardless of how high the intermediate loop is. afaik

Those pipes look a bit flattened on the bends...or is it my eyesight?

Work in progress, the left line is fitted.
All became more complicated than foreseen as the workshop decided to take off the exhaust for better access. Soldering was expensive as special silver-soldering bars (100 EUR only for that) had to be used on the Inox.

Why did I start all this? Probably because I was in the mood to do some little mods on the car. Maybe german perfection still in my blood?
Actually my turbos never smoke on startup and the first and only time I enountered turbo housing oil wet when I "woke"the car up from a 12 month winter sleep. My car has already Kevins (996tt) check valves but just before putting it into winter storage I changed oil and filter. Most likely the oil level was/is also too high.

We will see the change only after using the car for a while and also when putting deliberately too much oil into it. The new syphon type P-traps should prevent backflow into the turbos. (@basescull: As there will be air bubbles in the return lines the syphoning effect of the liquide oil should be prevented)

Best regards
Andreas

P.S. As you can see from the picture the turbo turbine hot side is absolutely perfect, gray-brown and no oil residues. No need to touch the turbos.

A quick question. Why not use a flexible braided line on this (like Kevin's input line) and support it so that it has the proper shape either off one of the chain cover nuts, or using a bracket? That would avoid all the fussy work of soldering the lines, worrying if excessive material is inside the lines, etc.

Cheers,

Mike

@Mike_J

In principle possible. But flexible lines usually are made of rubber with an reinforment in stainless stell webbings.
There is not too much space once the exhaust is fitted. You also do not want rubber in that area as the exhaust can become really hot.

That is a good point, as we do not want a cooked oil line causing a leak there, potentially burning down the engine and car! We will see in some years how they behave!
