As ive written, i need to replace my clutch and am going thru the same debate on flywheel and clutch packages. I think im going to do Bob's package. But,

What did the 993GT2 have?
According to Adrian in his 993 handbook, the street 993Gt2 had a ligher weight DUEL mass flywheel, while the 993RS had a single mass flywheel.

Is there any reason to consider the lighter weight duel mass flywheel from the gt2? Is it easier to drive than the RS flywheel?

sorry to beat this to death, but i want to get this right before having the work done.

I agonized over the flywheel when doing my clutch. I first used the factory dual mass then later converted to the LW flywheel. The driveabilty thing is real easy to adjust to. After 1 week of driving I can't notice the difference.

The personality transformation is difficult to discribe. The car is much more nimble off boost.

Be carefull on disk selection. I use the sachs organic GT2 disk. It engages very very smoothly.

You are beating this to death. The lightweight factory RS flywheel will not give you any issues. You will hear gear train noise being that everything is now directly coupled from the engine pulley to the front diff. The benifits of this system outweight the negatives. The cost of a new GT2 DMF will greatly exceed the cost of the factory lightweight system.

Many Rennlister's have purchased this kit when stepping up to my turbochargers... I have it in stock..

 

They work great, and they even look gorgeous!

I can almost bet that I will receive a question about the gearbox/clutch chatter. Tony can you give the folks a first hand account for yourself. As the clutch wears/seats the chatter diminishes..

No, i was not planning to ask about chatter , my issues are starting on a hill in traffic with a nyc taxi cab sitting 4 inches off my rear bumper. But, i do intend to go with the LWF/gt2 plate setup based on all the support ive seen here.

 

Hi Guys, I'm glad this topic came up again if only to confirm that I have made the right choice..my clutch has cried enough and I have just ordered the LWF and GT2 clutch option from FVD! To help you with your choice Rob I had an RS lwf and clutch fitted to a previous 964 c2 and apart from some minor chattering at very low rpm and a very small amount of hunting of the engine at idle the benefits of a much improved free revving nature far outweighed the minor downsides. Besides, from reading this site (thanks guys!) it appears the 993 doesnt suffer as much in these areas anyway. Win win situation I reckon! Hope this helps

Don't worry about the driveability. I had the RS lightweight flywheel/clutch installed on my '97TT and had no problem whatsoever adapting to the change. It drove very predictably with good clutch feel and it was not a big deal to get used to. In my opinion, the performance improvement was very noticable and highly desirable. All this said, I couldn't stand the clattering sound and went back to a stock clutch only because of the noise.

why did porsche put a light weight duel mass flywheel in the 993gt2, but a single mass flywheel in the RS?

 

Rob I have this setup on my car (the RS one Kevin posted) If you wnat to hear the gearbox noise meet up with me whenever you want. It's not terrible. I kind of like it : ) The car is out in NJ but I live across the river in Hoboken

I have heard the "Chatter" sounds but nothing like what was described on 6speedonline. I'll have to listen to it again at idle... but I have not notice any sounds that makes my car sounds like its falling apart... I got to tell you driving through Malibu Canyons and up to Santa Barbara last week was a blast... with my new setup.... yes, still new to me :-))
