Default 993 Turbo Cel and Viper Bob's comments

Hello everyone:

Curious to hear from 993 tt owners---Viper Bob says he has never seen a tt with cel problems ie:emission

Is this true from 993tt owners? Bob says he only has seen Cel issue problems on NA vehicles.

Thanks

Tim,

Viperbob is a well respected guru on this board, and I like him as a buddy as well. I'm not exactly sure where this question is going, but my Ruf Turbo R was suffering from a CEL with a code 1140 (improbable load sensor readings...?). After doing a lot of trouble shooting, it looks like one of my stock, plastic divertor valves was leaking. I took that opportunity to upgrade to the EVO billet divertor valves... so far no CEL, and am I just imagining this or do I have a pile of more HP?

I wonder if Bob was talking abut the "clogged" SAI port issues that tends to plague the OBD2 NA cars?

Tim:

I am with Steve... where are you coming from with your question?

Do you have a 993TT with a CEL issue ?

Or are you thinking of buying one and are worried about this alledged issue?

Give us a hint... OK?

Well, I am here to tell you it CAN happen in a TT. At least my dealer got with the regional service rep and Porsche picked up half the bill.

I don't understand the purpose of your thread. Are you questioning Viperbob's knowledge or are you concern about Cel as a potential problem with these cars?

Sorry, I guess my question was not very specific.

I would like to buy a 993 tt and was wondering about Viper Bob's comment about seeing no tt's with a clogged SAI. Is this true, and thanks for all your responses. He says all SAI problems he has seen are with NA vehicles.

Tim:

There are some very good tests that can be performed during a PPI to weed out marginal cars on the SAI issue. An experienced shop who knows 993's along with the right diagnostic tools (mainly a PST2 with the knowedge to use it) can flush out (pardon the pun) any anomolies with how the SAI acts.

With so many reasons why a car might develop CEL issues, spending the extra $$$ on a PPI that would cover checking the SAI as well as other TT specific checks is worth every penny !

Bob was refering to the clogged up exhaust ports issues, TT don't suffer from this, it seems that the port "hole" in the exhaust track is further down, making for a better scavenging of any carbon in the passages, kind regards, Sonny.

Yes just to clarify, there are potential CEL states that occur at many times with the TT. Stuff does go wrong with them, and the electronics tell you so. What I was specifically referring to was the CEL condition for a SAI problem that is so prevalant in the NA cars. This is almost unheard of in the TT world. I have seen MANY a NA car with this condition. I have though not personally seen any TTs with this problem (and I have LOTS of TT customers). Bill had this issue, but again you do not see the outpouring of folks that are having this condition.
