I'm thinking of loosing some serious wheight on my car by removing the handsfree phone kit installed from factory.
Furthermore the phone doesn't work anymore and it just feels out of date the whole thing.
Has anyone done this. Any major problems or things to think about before trying?

Thomas, it is a rather easy project. Are you planning on removing the entire console? And replacing it with a standard one? If so I'd be interested in it..

I did it it my former 993 Cabrio a few years back...don't remember the details very well but it was easy...I started with the center console, then tracked the wires and removed the various electric components. There were a few pounds of electronics under the passenger seat. I ended up selling the center console on ebay for close to $1000 USD....they are somewhat rare, apparently............Marc

If you mean the whole center console around handbrake etc, the answer is no I'm afraid.
I just want to remove the small console for the mobile phone. It is in the way and I don't use it.

Thomas,
It's a few screws on the side. I removed it once to get to the wiring easier and it was very easy done. Problem is that we have the euro-console and it's a different solution than the US. Once the phone console is removed, you'll end up with a hole on the side. To fill the hole, you need some custom plate and some interior mtrl to cover it.
I checked with Porsche, but they don't have an easy solution and you need to buy a new center console![Frown](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Here is a pic how it looks for those who live on the other side of the pond.
Cheers
