Great American 993s for Sale + Price Discussion Thread

First and immediate impression is that the miles are not even remotely accurate. However, I do give the dealer credit for posting as many underbody shots as they did. If compression across all cylinders are reasonably close together and strong, a leak down might not be necessary but ... I would go that far on this one if I was serious even if compression was acceptable. The brake fluid is a tad dark but has definately been flushed which is a sign that a PO did some basic maintenance. I’d budget for an engine out to do proper reseal and to give everything a good once over. The other benefit is that it’s an early production 718 car which means OBDI and no drive block!
I would be in the very very low $30s (maybe even an opening salvo in the $20s) knowing it will need $5k to $10k worth of service. What is the dealer asking? Are there any records with the car?
As as for the paint? I’d fix the rust around the glass, paint those spots flat black, and touch nothing else!! Drive it and enjoy the patina & personality that it brings to the car - that, IMHO, would be the best part of owning it!!
In my head I guess I could live with 35, but what you say is true would love to take on the project for $32k area, if he's firm on 40, based on your reply I should pass and I agree with extra work needed.

Thanks so much for the quick advice, the 1995 is a huge plus for cali smog..Dealer asking 40k, Dealer is trying to get service records as work was performed outside of Porsche,

A friend of the Vesuvio owner posted in the Rennlister Facebook group yesterday. As suspected, he was swarmed with offers and decided to take the car off the market because he felt he priced it too low. Now he's starting with bids @ 60k. If you messaged interest, I'm sure you have already been informed.

About a year ago I considered a very similar car--993 C4 in silver and red--but mileage was low 20s and price around $64k.
Investigate service and needs and the price might be just fine.

Thanks! With "factory condition" I meant no aftermarket modifications etc.

I think it depends on the individual and how badly someone wants the color. My C4S for example was a glass-out/high end paint job. This was due to a previous owner wanting to install the full aero and afraid of paint match issues (not due to an accident). He applied a clear bra as well. It could be argued the paint looks better than factory (no orange peel, etc). The dealer and myself had no idea the car was repainted. I only discovered this by cross checking the VIN here on RL. I spoke to the original owner to get these details. With this information at hand, the dealer knocked the price down about 10% from the originally negotiated price.

Absolutely. Im of the same mindset. I’d rather have a excellent condition repainted car properly protected with PPF that mediocre or poor condition original paint. These cars are getting to the age and mileage that many have had some paint work, rock chip repair or minor/parking lot scuffs scrapes, road rash, etc. This is entirely personal but I also believe that unlike some older 911’s 993’s do not look great with alot of patina and worn out, rock chipped paint. Ultimately, original paint is great if it looks right. On the repaint it really depends on the reasons for doing it, who did the work and the overall quality of the finished car.

Having one of each, I’ll take the windows out top tier repainted one over the original paint one with minor flaws any day of the week. The automotive paint technology of 22 years ago can’t shine the shoes of modern day systems and blends. Regardless if it is/was factory. 993s do not look good at all with patina.

Great price. I would be all over this if I was in the market.

Unfortunately it's sold...and not to me. Boo hoo. It was as near perfect for what I've been searching as I've seen.
