I know that there have been solutions for getting rid of the bumperettes created by molding a piece in place on the bumper and casting it in resin.

This is something that was created based on that idea but as a 3D printable model. It is taking much longer than I ever envisioned because I am relying on a friend for a lot of the technical know-how and he is a crazy genius with the emphasis on crazy, so communication and iteration times are spotty.

That being said, he has produced this and I couldn't so he is infinitely faster than I am.

I have test fitted a set he printed and the piece needs some small modifications but in general I feel I am closer to the end of the project than the beginning.

This is very much a personal project for me. Once I saw that it could be done, then I had to do it.

Hard to say if this is a solution for everybody's and not just my 993 but to what seems to be a less than exacting process to create those holes initially in the factory.

Certainly it would be a 90% solution but would require either removal of material or extra material added depending on the bumperette hole.

There are no real plans for production so far, apart from a set for myself. I suppose it could potentially happen but I'd have to get a certain number of sets made to order rather than produce them in the hopes that I could shift them afterwards. Anyway, more of a personal project than something I want to market and sell.

As to color, anything that is printed would have to be primed and painted, though gloss black could be possibly achieved with just clearcoat on black abs.

Great idea, downside would be getting a close paint match.

Polar Silver is a pain but paint matching is a problem whether you're respraying a bumper or touching up a chip.

The main problem with the cast ones is that you start to make copies and the quality goes down fast. The set I got was from the end of that molds life and when the mold has passed it's best before there's not much you can do. You could create a new mold from the first casting but as this was something another member created for a personal project with no commercial intent, it's not really an option.




This is the modification that's needed now, the inner edge is 1mm high of the bumper cover. Is it that case one every 993? Who knows!

What if you designed each insert as 2 pieces held together with 2 small nuts and bolts. It would give you some horizontal plane adjustability (if you make the connecting holes just a little bigger than the bolts) and might allow you to fine tune the current problem quickly, without sanding. ie Just snug the bolts, test fit, push to correct fitment, remove, tighten nuts, reinstall. Thinking a 'cut' line along where the color change occurs in your pic. Does that make any sense.

For just one, I agree that would probably be the way to go. My thoughts were along the line of if somebody did want to make them for mass production since the fitment seems to vary by car.
