I did not plan this one!
It started with torn rear axle inner (transmission side) boots.
Sure, it was messy greasy but it wasn't that bad for the driver side.
But, there is no wiggle drop down space for the axle shaft for passenger side! This is a 97 993 Tip.
So, removing one thing after another and, using a 5 ton puller from Advanced, I arrived to the following situation!
I disconnected following items from wheel carriers.
Stabilizer bar
Stabilizer bar links
Camber control arms
Lower A arms
Caster control arms
Toe control arms
Struts
Rear axles
Heater ducts
driver side heat exchanger ( interfere with the removal of the bolt of toe control arm
I am stopping for today.
I was going to install my new coilovers another day but since I took everything off I will install them too.
I am sure that I will be coming back for you guys help.....
I kept putting it off but wanted the A/C working just in case it is hot heading to Rennsport. I could see the leaky evaporator after removing the cabin filters so knew that was my problem. It really wasn't as bad as I had feared just a lot of steps. Took it apart over 2 days so I wouldn't get in a hurry and do something stupid. Got it back together and working in about 8 hrs. taking my time. Having it on a lift helped keep things at a comfortable working height. As I expected working under the dash was the worst part.
Also finally installed the Goldenrod I have had on the shelf for years. I spend most of my shop time working on the 914's.
I think this job is in my future. AC hasn't worked in years, have never bothered to investigate. Is the leaky evap really obvious visually? Should I get my AC charged and then tested for leaks to confirm it's the evaporator?

Check the schreider valves on the AC for leaks first. They are known to fail and leak. I've actually had two sets go...they lasted about 10yrs.
nice little combo of 914s there! my first car at 17 was a 1.7 914 and i've had an appreciation for them ever since.
Thanks. The green one is a gem, all original never restored 1971 1.7. I know it's history from day one and have a huge stack of paperwork. The owners manual is even signed by members of the Porsche family!
White one is a driver 1974 2.0 that I am in the process of repairing the hell hole on...

I could look in with a flash light after removing the cabin filter on the drivers side and clearly see a big brown blotch on the evaporator so I just dove in.
Otherwise I think you have to do the dye thing, especially if you are paying someone to do this.
