Guys,

New to board i have read a lot and this is a great site. Lots of positive helpfull stuff.

I am looking for a mint C4S with low miles. I have looked at a couple of really nice cars but i just cant see paying the asking prices. Can a 96 car with low 20's K miles really command a $58 - $60k price tag ? and there is little room for negotiation. I am not a cheapscape but come on. I would appreciate your opinions on a fair price. Is edmunds/KBB really that far off, they say $40k for a 96 and $45 for a 97.

Having said that i am ready to buy, at a FAIR price, cash waiting, cant wait to join the 993 owners ranks, please let me know of any cars that might fit the bill. I have looked in Autotrader, rennlist, etc.

Before I bought my turbo, I was looking at C4S's
and yes low miles C4S's are in the 60K range
when I got down to bargaining we were in the mid
50's. These were for 97's. Edmunds and KBB were
of no use when I was looking. They dont include mods
owners have done or upgrades. You should expect to be
in the 55K for a 97 and maybe a tad less for a 96. If you want
mint lo miles you are going to have to pay for it. If you want
a good price then you are going to have to buy a higher miles
car that has been driven.

In all honesty, Edmunds is not a reliable source for pricing on 993s. A better ruler to use would be the current market. Look at what owners were asking (and what they eventually sold at) around the various websites. I think that will provide a much better gauge than Edmunds, which can be out of touch with the enthusiast verging on the brink of collector community.

Rod, Dont pay too much attention to kbb, Edmunds etc. They really are off on their pricing. In the last year C4S's have come down in price though $40K for a '96 is a little low. I would concentrate on a goal of $47-55K for a C4S in good condition.

Thanks guys, high 40's low 50's would seem reasonable for a really nice car, wish i could find one for that.

There was a thread started here on 9/20/03 entitled "993 Prices". I'm not sure how to link it, but it was quite long and may answer some of your questions.

You can find the thread by using the search function and selecting the "993 Forum".

OG and Randy are certainly correct in their price estimates. I caution that the above mentioned thread has to be gleaned for good info - there are some in that post who indicate these cars are available at wholesale prices on every street corner, which is not the case if you are looking for "relly nice car".

Viken has a 1996 993 C4S for sale and his car is perfectly optioned.

The car is in an excellent condition, it's a one owner car and the big bonus is Viken has the European close ratio transmission which does transform the performance of the car

If you want a low mile, pristine car, then yes you are being a "cheapskate" (your word not mine). Low mile, unmolested cars are highly sought after (and will continue to be IMHO) and therefore command very good prices for all the reasons stated on this board ad infinitum. You get what you pay for. I wouldn't sell mine for the high 40's, low 50's. Doubt other low mile, pristine owners will either. If they are look very carefully.

Rod, no offense at all, but if you want a lower mileage car than Viken's you cant expect to pay bottom dollar. I will add my two cents here since I know a thing or two about 993s. I would pay extra for a car maintained by an enthusiast and with 30k miles compared to what I would pay for a granny driven car with 20k miles.

You are missing the boat if you pass on Viken's car because it has 10k miles more than you want. A car that has not been driven is much worse than has reasonable miles. That car is at least 6 years old so it has not been driven more than 7K miles a year.

condition, not mileage is of concern.
viken's car is LOW mileage. any lower, i suspect you will get carbon build up as it's obviously not driven.

What do you guys think would be a fair price for an "As New" 96 with 12900 miles ?

Actually, I'm looking for a C4S too but of the diecast model car variety. I've been looking around but it does not appear where I can easily find a black C4S model. Any ideas? I would prefer 1/18 or 1/24
