Default 993C2S body restoration at 9m

Hello boys, it's me again! I'm sorry that it's been such a long time since my last thread, just a simple case of not having enough hours in a day following our move of premises and then having to put customers and paying the bills at the top of the to-do list. Anyway, you're not here to read about my issues, you're here to read about 993's so let's get straight back on point. This story is all about the body restoration of a 993 Carrera 2S Tiptronic, a last of production 1998 model in Zenith Blue with a Cashmere leather & hardback interior combination.

In the last 12 months we have restored and refreshed 4 other Carrera S & Turbo models. What we learned doing these jobs is that the problems you will see on this car are there to some degree on every one that we have done, whether it has done 50,000 miles of 100,000 miles. The good news is that the years of neglect stop here as we go from top to bottom & front to back of the 2S's bodywork to prepare it for sale. I hope you enjoy the thread.

First problem: top of front wings and scuttle.

Yup, it's as bad as it looks, however quite remarkably it looks like this 993 has never had paint in this area before. That's good news because at least we won't have to do the usual and put right previously bodged up work.

Other issues (aside from general marks & scratches)
Wheel arch lips. Front and rear, covered in the usual stone chips and rust spot
Rear screen aperture corroded, screen seal incorrectly fitted, screen surround delaminating
Stone chips on rear bumper, poor colour match

First job: let Rob & the boys loose and start taking the 993 to pieces.

Is it just me or am I cool to love the interior colour??

This a car that just lived a normal life in your climate? Or was it subjected to an extraordinarily harsh outdoor "garaging" coastal fate?

Damn, I thought the North-East US was tough on cars but by the looks of it the UK takes the cake!

Regarding the sport seats, they were recovered in 996 pattern? Haven't seen that stitch on 993s before.

Good to see you back around these parts Colin!

The U.K. is wet ... and cold in winter. They don't call it 'blighty' for nothin'

Regarding seats, looks like the rears have the same 996 type pattern.. probably redone at the same time is my guess.

It's good to be back.

The seats are original I think, certainly no sign of them being recovered.

Although the 2S has done around 100k miles what you see here is not completely normal, so I would expect that the car has spent most of its life in Scotland or on the coast. Keep watching, it get worse before it gets better.....

Interesting car. Never seen midnight blue and cashmere paired together .. and an S without the signature dark gray Buffalo Hyde textured leather/leatherette in the middle dash panels and door cards (and sun visors I presume) ... plus the odd seat pattern. Is the Carrera S script on the tach just above the OBC window?

Looking at your pics a little closer, the leather covers on the seats seem a bit off... And I've never seen 986/996 stitch pattern on a 993... Being that it's a MY98 maybe they did use the "newer" pattern?
