For those interested, my official Porsche garage gave me the following cost estimate:
$100. per hydraulic lifter...., $1200.00
gaskets: $800.
manual work: $3000.00
Total: around $5000.00
It would have been about $7800., but they gave me a discount for my car since it is now part of the Porsche Classic program.
As long as they have to take the engine out, I will take the opportunity to have my clutch done as well, since I feel I need it.

For a pro, is is NOT an engine out process, you need to remove some sheet metal, and perhaps even lower the engine a bit, but you certainly do not have to drop the engine.
Even if they dropped the engine, that is perhaps another 6 hours of labor and an alignment + fluids -> so 6*$120 + $300 + $120 (oil) = $1140, for a grand total of $2910, still short of $5000.
You need a new shop.
Cheers,
Mike

Easy enough to say, but Porsche AG practically has a monopoly here in Switzerland, apart from a couple of tuners, very difficult to find any garage with the experience with Porsche 993. Be happy those of you living in the States...

True. Prices are not equal throughout the world.
