Why not just solve the problem by putting me on your "ignore list"?

For those interested, my official Porsche garage gave me the following cost estimate:

$100. per hydraulic lifter...., $1200.00
gaskets: $800.
manual work: $3000.00

Total: around $5000.00

It would have been about $7800., but they gave me a discount for my car since it is now part of the Porsche Classic program.

As long as they have to take the engine out, I will take the opportunity to have my clutch done as well, since I feel I need it.

wait, engine out for lifters?
gaskets-800?! how is that even possible?
do the work yourself, spend 500 on parts and the other 4500 on a lift, tools and assistant.

It was awfully nice of them to discount a total ripoff to just a ripoff . . Those prices are totally insane. Gasket sets top and bottom are $120 or less, lets say $150 with bolts. Labour is 6 hrs at $120/hr = $720. Lifters are $75/piece maximum overpaid price == $900. That is $1770, not $5000.

For a pro, is is NOT an engine out process, you need to remove some sheet metal, and perhaps even lower the engine a bit, but you certainly do not have to drop the engine.

Even if they dropped the engine, that is perhaps another 6 hours of labor and an alignment + fluids -> so 6*$120 + $300 + $120 (oil) = $1140, for a grand total of $2910, still short of $5000.

You need a new shop.

Cheers,

Mike

Its is so refreshing to come across an honest shop. Better snap that deal up.

Easy enough to say, but Porsche AG practically has a monopoly here in Switzerland, apart from a couple of tuners, very difficult to find any garage with the experience with Porsche 993. Be happy those of you living in the States...

Where are you located in Schweiz? I could set it up for you for a fair price in Germany (near Munich).

Does VAT figure into parts pricing? You can buy lifters all day long here for about $38 per.

I am in Ticino, southern Switzerland. Don't like taking my car out of Switzerland. Thanks, however...
