Default Odd Clutch Behavior?

Driving the 4S over the weekend, the clutch did something I don't remember it doing…which was the pedal felt kind of numb, and engaged much higher than it had previously. After driving it for a while, the feeling returned to normal, and it engaged 'high' but not as high as previously.

It doesn't feel like its slipping at the moment (and 46K miles) but I am assuming the end of the original clutch is coming probably in the next few thousand miles?

Thoughts?

How long has it been since the clutch hydraulics were flushed?

I did it not terribly too long ago (within the last 18 months when I did the big service - the same time I sent my ECU to you Steve), and that was one of my first thoughts too.

I know its a self adjusting clutch, so it might have adjusted itself to almost its limits.

Clutch mileage really depends on the usage - I have seen worn out ones at 30,000 miles or less, and others going 100,000. You cannot see it from the outside, but a popular indicator is the engagement point height. The higher the point, the more worn the clutch.

For sure, flush the system again if its not too painful. (I can say that because I can throw a car on the lift and have it done in 20 min). Also, if a clutch has been in there for a while, things wear - uneven wear on the clutch forks, throwout bearing slop, needle bearing wear, rust/gumming up of the mainshaft spline, pressure plate pivot wear, etc. These can all impact the feel.

Cheers,

Mike

Thanks, Mike.

I guess the silver lining is I can do some (more) upgrades whilst I'm in there...

Could it be the hanging clutch pedal problem?
Does it feel like the pedal doesn't return properly?

Clutch pedal returns and smoothly. I also think power delivery feels a bit different than before. That being said, I've been driving my 67S the last couple of months, and maybe I've gotten used to how that drives?

I don't have great problems, Goofball. You need to see this 67S…and then you'll know what kind of problems I have. Better see it before it goes to the shop for the better part of 12-14 months.
