1 year anniversary trip
RL:
I head out tomorrow morning from Chicago in the 993 for points west. I bought the car a year ago and I am celebrating with a 6 thousand mile road trip.
I just did a bunch of mods and am confident I did everything right so here I go. I will try to post some photos as I go.
The destination is San Francisco by way of Seattle and Portland. I am going to Darin's shop to swap mufflers when I get the Bay Area. I am very excited. Fister IIIs with oval tips.
All in all, it should be epic.

I love these threads -- please, please post a bunch of pics and details.
Lemme know when you're in Seattle and lunch is on me.
Darin, riding the lift in my car way back when.

Also, you might want to use the good stuff along the way...http://pure-gas.org/ (Pull down the KML file and open w/ google earth.)
You can create your own KML's of the journey too.

Have you left Chicago yet? Expecting to see some pictures of a 993 packed up with all of the road trip essentials. Let us in the Seattle area know when you arrive.

Day One: Chicago, Il to Lincoln, Ne. 528 miles.
The weather was bad. Heavy rain and standing water on the road. I passed many motorcycles and remembered vividly what that was like. I was so glad I was indoors!
I learned that a small steering wheel, unfamiliar new suspension(PSS10) and AWD is an interesting combination. I was a little freaked out when the rear started to wiggle around and the front compensated. I thought I understood AWD from owning a couple of STis but I guess I don't. I was white knuckling it for a lot of the day as I figured out what the car was trying to communicate to me.
I think the main thing it was trying tell me was keep both hands on the wheel and, for the love of god, pay attention.
Today was a smaller drive day so I am glad I got some weather right out of the gate to teach me a thing or three.
Pics:
Welcome to Iowa. It was pouring. I stayed in the car.
White knuckling it through the ridiculous down pours and wind
