(Funny how we accept our viscous AWD systems for what they are, but when in the Porsche non-SUV AWD class at Tech Tactics last winter the PCNA instructor basically dismissed everything built before the 997 as a joke.)
So if you've got time in the schedule, and are interested, when you hit the Bay Area I'm sure we can get a group together for a dinner.

Sorry to hear that Rule No.2 Carry a complete set of replacement belts, was broken.
Hopefully someone in the region will "chime in"!
You do have Rule No.1? The spare DME Relay?

I found this from an old thread from DallWA. Several others agree about this place in the same thread:
My favorite independent shop is EuroSport Automotive in Arvada just a few miles south of Westminster. Excellent reputation, Porsche specialist, big menu of services, from small to big, alignment and corner balance. I just had them do a steering rack, check valve on Turbo, slave and accumulator, plugs, oil change..Going back for a suspension replacement..alignment and corner balance.
Another option is Randy at Boulder Autowerks. Another Porsche specialist, but only 1 lift. Tougher to get in, and menu isn't as diverse. Quality of work is good.
Not sure on upholster shop, wheel refinisher or check strap. I'll be watching this thread for recommendations for myself.
Cheers!

Love road trips, I actually just took one from Truckee, CA stopping in Kingman, AZ to pick up a boat then off too Medina, OH. This was in a 95' Wrangler though. Enjoy and good luck with the belt. Thank you for the pictures and keep us updated.

Day 2: Lincoln, Ne to Ogden, Ut
I started out before dawn this morning and ran into the mother of all thunderstorms. Rain, wind, hail. Man did that wake up every sense!
Things were humming along well. I met an older gentleman and his wife in western Nebraska who was touring in his Type 2 VW camper. He is the original owner and has put 1 million miles on it.
40 miles outside of Cheyenne Wyoming I heard a strange noise from the back. I thought it was the right side exhaust heat shield rattling around like it does. I kept going and noticed the ABD light. Hmmm. Then my eye moved right on the gauge pod and I see the battery light. Crap. I figured I will push it to Cheyenne and check it out.
Turns out the Alternator belt popped. Double crap. I had a set of belts on my parts table to bring with me and I forget them!
I found a Midas and they had a reasonable substitute. The guy put it on and I was off.
That ate up a few hours but I was happy to be rolling again. I was expecting the worst.
I was a bit nervous in the service the rest of the day but the scenery was super desolate and breathtaking. I couldn't help thinking that this beautiful place would be ugly to break down in.
At around 7 I rolled into a hotel. Man, tomorrow needs to be uneventful car-wise!
Oh, and the car drives so well. 90 mph is a sweet spot but it really wants to do 105. I pulled back a little to avoid meeting the police face to face. I'll save that for another trip.

Day 3: Ogden, Ut to Seattle, Wa 850 miles(approx.)
I headed out early. A few hours before sunrise. I got to Twin Falls, Idaho at around 5:30. Took this pic as the fog rolled through the valley.
The day's drive was full of huge huge valleys and mountains. Lots of fun. The offset pedals and seat are killing my left side. No way around that. It is not exactly a touring car.
I had a pretty uncomplicated day. Lots of two hands on the wheel driving and dodging trucks.
Big big valleys!
Arrived in Seattle and my friend had torn into the dash and needed to go to a work obligation so he took my bone-tired C4S. No rest for the wicked!

Great pics. Love the silhouette. Is that your PCA sticker showing up? Great story about the million miler.
Keep the pics coming. It really takes discipline to stop the car and take pics but you'll have them forever...
