Default 2nd Autocross - Video

Took the C4S out to autocross for the 2nd time. What a blast!

I'm still in need of some practice but was pleased with the results. The car was flawless.

Open to expert tips.

Thanks,

OK. Not a bad run - smooth and controlled. I would advise looking ahead much more and turning earlier and smoother.

1. At 39 seconds - you are at 180 degree hairpin but looking straight ahead. Need to look over your left shoulder at the turn's exit in order to figure out where to brake and how much.

2. Hitting front side of cones in earlier slaloms, although slalom at 1:12 looks pretty perfect to me with car at teh back sides of cones.

So... look ahead more. And start turning earlier than you think you need to.

Thanks for the feedback. I definitely have to start looking ahead more. I could also push the car a little harder.

What camera did you use? And where did you clamp it to?

That's 80% of autocross success right there.

I could also push the car a little harder.
That's not advisable yet

Go Pro Hero 3 White Edition (the cheapest one) with a suction cup mount on the inside of the rear window. Open back on the go pro case for sound.

The camera will be upside down but just flip the video after.

That mounting spot worked out great, good to know!

Yeah I was happy with it. Don't use the "extension arm" that comes with the suction cup mount. Just mount the camera directly to the cup.

One more suggestion. Adjust the inside rear-view mirror so you can see the camera lens. The resulting video will give you a great understanding where you are actually looking as you drive the course.

I would also work on your hand placement and movement...I also never found it "good" to let go of the wheel and let it self center thru my grip. I agree with looking way up ahead more...the cones right in front of you really are past history...try taping a piece of cardboard on the lower half of your windshield, it will force you to look where you should. Also, slow your hands down when making steering inputs...slow is fast. Good luck!

I'd love to see how that goes over during Tech Inspection.

I have a bunch of good, bad, and ugly in-car autocross vids on my youtube account.

This youtube user has a bunch of good in-car Porsche autocross vids

This guy is local to me, he doesn't drive a Porsche, but he posts lots of vid and he is fast, always competing for FTD.

It'll be fine, especially if you simply use masking tape. This is standard exercise at Evolution school.
