Default Immobilizer Issue ?

Hi Guys, looking for some insight into a new issue with my 993. Car used to start every time I turned the key all the way as it is supposed to. Lately it has stopped turning over so I have had to turn my key to the "ON" position, press the remote button until I see the red door panel indicator flash twice then start the car.
Battery in remote is new. Is this a problem with the immobilizer ?
Thanks for any help

The car started before without you pressing the button on the remote first?

Pressed remote button to unlock door, turned key, car started. Not any more. Now press remote button to unlock door, turn key and car typically ( 2/3 times) won't start until I go through procedure described above

By the way, i hate the immobilizer. stupid function.

Never valet your car.

I would rip it out if i could.

You said, "Pressed remote button to unlock door, turned key, car started".

AFAIK that is not the usual sequence. Normally it is press remote, open door; insert key, press remote again, door blinkers stop; turn key fully, engine starts.

i only have to push the remote once to unlock the doors and the car will start.

however, if i wait too long between unlocking the doors and starting the car i am required cycle the door locks again before the car will start.

Again, i hate the immobilizer.

Check the microswitch in the trunk latch. It gets bent through use and stops actuating. Your trunk light stays on (not that you'd know) and the immobilizer thinks not all doors are secure. Are you getting an error light sequence from the door LEDs?

I'm thinking along these lines too; however, because you are getting,
the red door panel indicator flash twice
I'm thinking maybe a door microswitch is going bad.
How long has this behavior been in effect?
Door microswitches are relatively cheap, but you should try to verify its a bad switch before spending any money.
HTH...

P.S. Operation described below is not normal. This would only be the case if the time allotted to start the car has been exceeded. Normal operation is unlock car with fob, insert key, start car.
This may be normal operation if the car is parked and the alarm/immobilizer fails to auto prime itself, as it should. (Possible microswitch issues; doors, trunk, engine bay, glovebox)
AFAIK that is not the usual sequence. Normally it is press remote, open door; insert key, press remote again, door blinkers stop; turn key fully, engine starts.

Also, don't forget the clutch microswitch. If that one is out of adjustment or faulty, your car will not start or may start if it feels like it. I by-passed mine just to get it out of the equation. Haven't had a problem since I did (knock on wood!).

[QUOTE]

Been going on for about three months. Is the microswitch located near the trunk Latch ? I will check for anything that looks "bent". There are no open door indicators when I'm driving but I'm guessing two separate sensors for locking and immobilizer ?
