Not a bad call that JP. Will have to give this more consideration.

The one thing that this thread has taught me is that even though we perceive ideal colours to be a totally personal choice, we all have in-built colour combination biases from previous visual experiences about what is "right" and what is not. Being able to dispassionately consider combinations is actually quite difficult, especially when you have one eye on the ball of creating something classy and exclusive that will appeal to many when/if we sell the car.

I had a very interesting conversation about colours recently with the owner of a specialised classic vehicle sales operation in London. His thoughts were that we could paint our car whatever colour we liked, but when it comes to selling a black car will fetch £15,000 more or sell 10x faster. Since it will not be painted black it looks like we will be losing £15k at some point in the future. We'll see.

Hm .. maybe in the U.K. and the continent .. but I don't think that would hold true in the U.S. They sell quickly if they're priced well, but no premium ..

No points for you. Vesuvius was introduced on the 964 ...

No love, you're right. Mainly because it's such an obvious choice with it being a prime choice colour on the Carrera S in combination with the titanium highlights. Unfortunately, as ever, I'm looking to set a trend rather than follow an old one, but I do respect your suggestion and agree that it would look well.

I'll stick by my call for the "Sport Classic" style, although I will admit that having given it some thought I'd appreciate inverting the body colours, ie. sending the main body colour to a darker grey shade whilst using lighter stripes.

With the stripes being prominent on the lid, given its a Speedster, I'm sold

I'd agree that its a subdued colour way, but given the quality/nature of the Speedster I'd want the colour to compliment rather than overpower it. Just strikes me as a highly "classy" finish with the brown interior ...

If you want proof of how the subdued colours can enhance the lines, just take a look at the Stone grey Singer ("New York").

[Sorry Colin, will go wash my mouth out now ]

PS. BTW, if you still are set on green then how about Birch Green (Lichtgrun, 253, MY74-75 P911 trans as Light Green US), note colour way 253. Its not the more common Chartreuse, thats 226, subtle diff but Birch Green to me is an even more stunning colour ... (example on a recent GT3RS http://tinyurl.com/p3aw2k4)

Correct, was firstly introduced with the launch of the Carrera S in late '96 early '97.

The purple colour on the 964 celebration is called viola metallic.

Very interesting thread, colours are a very personal choice. It varies over time as well, at least for me it does. Personally, I really love most of the pastel colours whereas five years ago I hated them .

Hey Vigo ...don't shoot the messenger, you know I'm a wonk. It's originally listed under 'Special Order' as Code 40M Vesuvio Metallic for 964 in the factory paint codes. Violet 39G for 964 is a different color/code and renamed Viola 39G on 993.

PLEASE don't do Viola. In a drunken stupor I bought a viola 996 aerokit car. IMHO, HORRIBLE color. Sold the car within a month or so.

I know you do not want to do a "grey" car, but why not GT Silver with a deep, dark red interior?
There is also the option of the metallic white (forgetting what it is exactly called) with can-can red interior.

I say a chiffon white or ivory color with either a black, chocolate brown or red interior would look nice.

Hey JPP . No problem, I love discussing these things.

I've never seen a Vesuvius 964 and I don't think it exists to be honest. The Vesuvius codes are L40X/L40W and P61X/P61W for the grey accents. This was a unique color for the 993 "celebration". "Violet blue" L37E is a completely different colour and not the same as Viola metallic L39G. All three colours are quite different but all of them are very beautiful in their own way . Especially Viola metallic really comes to life in bright sunshine. I've seen both Viola metallic and Violet blue on a 993s and 964s but never seen Vesuvius on a 964 .
