+1 did you agree to a flat rate fee for PPI not including comp test?

Yes. Two hours at like $80 an hour... No way I'm paying any more than that, i know they're not gonna agree to it and I'm hesitant to give them my CC for any reason now

Cash is king in a situation like this. PayPal the seller $160 and let him pay the mechanic, then walk away would work too.

Personally, I'd never give the mechanic my CC.

If it turns out that the oil leak is minor or doesn't exist, then you can re-imburse the owner for the PPI.

So basically, I can place it squarely on the owner as he SHOULD have known there was a "MAJOR" oil leak, if there was one. But if there's not, he can take it out of my deposit and I buy the car!

Now you're talkin'! If he wants his car back, he's got to pay the bill. No sense you taking it in the shorts!

I would get confirmation on exactly what kind of a leak were talking about. If it's just some leaking at the valve cover gaskets, it's not a $4000 job. My indy quoted me $500, but I'm just going to do it myself. If it's something worse, get an explination of what it is.

Two things:

1. MAJOR oil leaks really don't exist on these cars, do they? $4K to repair oil leaks? Sure, think case through bolts. But any rat residing in the crevice of anything resembling a Porsche shop has seen it before AND can relay such to the customer (owner, PPI recipient, man on the moon).

2. A compression test, labor-wise, in its most basic form is R&R rear wheels, two mufflers and six lower spark plugs. And disconnecting the ignition. Beyond that? Screwing the probe in X6, and cranking the car. If this process pays $300, sign me up as I'll do 4 a day and then hit the golf course............

Seller may/may not have known about the oil leak. You agreed to fork over 2 hours at $80/hr for a PPI. That was the deal you made and agreed to.

Be a man of honor and send the seller $160 via PayPal. Let he and the mechanic fight over the rest.

Oh, I never planned on not paying for the $160. It's just they're gonna expect more so I'm not giving my cc. So ya, let him take it out of my $2k deposit
