Default Great Ipod/Iphone upgrade for OEM stereo

I have been wanting to upgrade my stereo so I could use the Ipod/Iphone for a while but wanting to keep the OEM look. I have the CR-1 radio/cassette. I had been using a cheep cassette tape that you plug into the ear jack but it doesn't sound really good and doesn't charge anything. I called Discount Stereo to see if there was any connectors and they said no, not for my stereo. The guy I spoke to said I should get the IS77 Simple. It is basically a FM Modulator but you can bypass the antenna completely and therefor get no static like you did on the wireless modulators. It was like $70 so I figured I would give it a try. I have had it installed for 2 weeks and It is great. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants a simple way to use the Ipod/Iphone and charge it as well. The sound it great, almost no static at all. Obvious it isn't for those who need the very best sound, but it really is good. The install is pretty easy as well.

I like the idea of being able to retain the stock radio.
Did you route the ipod cable to the glovebox or center console?
And did you use the supplied on/off switch or install a stock looking near the shifter?
A picture would be great if you have one.

I will get a few pictures tomorrow and post them tomorrow. I routed the cables into the center console and then the Ipod cable up through the emergency brake. All of my switches are being used on the center console and I didn't want to drill any holes so I actually ran the switch to the OBD access plate and just have it sticking out a little. It is easy access and doesn't get in the way. I will get a couple of pictures so you can see.

Becker USA will install a phono IN jack on the front face plate. My friend had them do it with his CR-1 and the sound is good, and it's simple.

Best of all, it was cheap and look factory.

Here are a few pictures of the switch coming out the OBD plate and the Ipod cord coming out the e-brake. No drilling or cutting anything. Completely reversible if needed.

Looks like a nice solution, especially at the price. I think I would sacrifice the originality of the OBD cover and drill a small hole in there to house that switch.

I just installed the iSimple transit usb as well. $45 from Amazon. This model says android but it really is for anything that has a 3.5 audio output. I used my iPhone. This model also comes with a USB charger for the music device. Took 20 minutes to install. Would've been less time but I needed to get a beer. Walmart sells the radio removal tools. Labeled Ford and import for $5.58. Brand name is Scosche.

Here is the install. It's just below the cdr210 and to the right of the radar detector. Just sticks under the dash. No screws. Topless test drive....tunes were loud and clear. Annoyed some neighbors so I think it was a success!!!
