Default OT: Visiting San Fran and Monterey... and I like food as well as cars.

After a long break we will be hitting the bay area this summer.

Had a look at some of the other OT subjects about places to eat but most are a couple years old..

Looking for some more recent reco's for food.. don't be shy.. I am up for anything as long as its good.. from hole in the wall Pho to French Laundry.

so very hungry

If you want a good drive with good views/eats, I'd suggest driving on Highway 1 south of SF (between Pacifica and Santa Cruz). Lots of good food right along the 1, but I'd recommend you stop at The Mountain House on Skyline Blvd. Don't let the pictures on their website fool you - great atmosphere and among the best food I've ever tasted! http://www.themountainhouse.com/

Just barely north of SF (across the GG bridge) I highly recommend Murray Circle Restaurant.

I like the seafood restaurants around Fisherman's Wharf (but not Bubba Gump on Pier 39). McCormick's in Ghirardelli Square is very good.

Vivolo's in Pacific Grove, best Clam Chowder outside of the East Coast.
Baja Cantina on Carmel Valley Road is a driver's hang out.

Pier 23 in San Francisco, check on line for band's playing, great music and great food, no to mention views of the bay.

An excellent list. For the hole in the wall, try Mission Chinese.
