Is this after grit blasting and before the iridite coating or after? Is before, what will the final finish look like?

You can google pictures of Alodine finishing... It leaves a protective goldish hued coating over the entire part.

Good call. After seeing it, I'm not sure if it's the finish I want.

Very nice build. I would love to know the dyno numbers when you have her all back together.

Here we go with today's progress...

I have a Skat Blast grit blasting cabinet, nice product, and a large air compressor. Here are pix of getting set up to chemical clean the aluminum and to apply the Alodine. Note the semi-golden color on the finished parts. I did the billet aluminum valve covers too. I removed the fuel injectors and will be sending them to RC Engineering (rceng.com) so they can be tested, cleaned, and calibrated. This makes a big difference in a smooth running engine!!!

By the way, the TPC Supercharger kit add the 7th injector.

Engine with the billet aluminum valve covers that I grit blasted and then chemical film treated. I changed the 'soft' Allen Head Socket Cap screws for ARP twelve point screws and washers in black oxide. A dab of Never-Seez anti seez compound to the screw threads and torque down. Nice and clean!!!

Work continues as the powder coated parts are back. Cleaned and calibrated fuel injectors are in transit back to me. New rear suspension 'sport' bushings installed. ARP metric black oxide hardware is on order. New oil pressure and temp senders on order, etc...

I partially stripped out the engine compartment sound proofing material that is totally cracked, sagging, looks like crap. I did a site search for any DIY install info, but did not find anything. I have some 3M spray adhesive, but not sure if this is up to the job with the heat, etc... Also, I am concerned that if there is adhesive like a contact glue, there is little room to make adjustments while trying to get the material into correct position.

Does anyone have suggestions? I will take pix and try and document how I do this so it can be shared here.

More pix will come.

Thanks!!!

I have done a couple and I found them bears to put in, tight fit so go slow and it will be ok. I used the spray 3M adhesive, seems to hold after a few years...

There is a "regular 3M spray adhesive, and a "high heat" version. I'd certainly look for the latter. It woked fine for many years on my 911.

Thanks Ed, I will look for the High Heat 3M spray adhesive.

I am thinking of applying an aluminum strip (something like carpet edging) along the top edge using the OEM mounting studs to hold the strip in place. My hope is to provide positive support all along the edge of the sound proofing and give a nice 'finished' look. I will be looking at this closer to see if this will work.

Actually, I looked-the 3M Hi-Strength 90 spray adhesive is the good stuff. The 3M Super 77 is pretty common too, but I don't think it holds well.

I have some Super 77 on the shelf, but I will look for the Hi-Strength 90.
