Yup, my dad has been an avid hot rodder his whole adult life, so I grew up around hot rods.

Here's his '27 Model T coupe, the only hot rod he kept from the many hot rods he has owned since the 60s.

The car has a small block chevy, air condition, not a trailer queen, gets driven. In fact, he was 7 hrs (450mi) away from home, visiting me, and attending a Goodguy's event, when I took this pic.

Love this truck! So cool!

That looks awesome. I love Challenger's and Cuda's. Best of luck with the purchase. I'd like an update, if you do buy it.

Since others are sharing, I thought I would too. Here's my '66 convertible. I bought it from the original owner's son. The original owner bought it new in '66 and each of his 5 kids drove it in high school. The last son to drive it is the one who had it restored.

Check out the shifter (3 speed on the column) and even though you can't see it in this photo, this truck has the ignition key on the left, just like our Porsches.
(I doubt it's for Le Mans reasons though...)

I don't always use a three on the tree, but when I do, it's a Dos Equis.

This thread touches some old nerves. Please indulge me for a few minutes. Hot rods and muscle cars are where I grew up. But hot rods today are SO much nicer (and safer) than the cars we cobbled together with no money. Guys like me are the reason good examples are so rare today. I got to Porsche via air cooled vws.

A friend in high school had two Shelby mustangs, a 68 and a 66. When I left home they were both in his father's barn with blown engines. He also had a 55 ford pickup and a 58 retractable hardtop in there. I wonder if they are still there?

Another friend had a 69 Charger RT with the 440. He lowered the front and rear and put fat tires all around. Most of us were raising the back end and putting skinny tires up front like we were going to drag race somebody.

A guy took me for a ride in his Torino GT to show me what it would do. That was the first time I saw a speedometer go over 120mph. And we were on a dirt road! It's a wonder we survived.

Here's the first hot rod(?) I built when I was 15 years old. 39 Chevy, 350ci, BW T-10, 57 chevy 4:11 rear end, 35 chevy straight axle, 64 chevy power steering, 51 chevy front brakes, ... . All built with an acetylene torch and arc welder. And I drove it everywhere with my foot on the floor. Did I mention it's a wonder I survived?

And here's another I bought to 'fix up' when I was 18. My mother cried when I brought it home. This picture is after I had done a lot of 'custom' repairs. Monza headlights are nice touch huh? Before I bought it someone had run into a wall or something. The headlights were held in with duct tape and the front fenders were duct taped. I'm no expert on corvettes but I think it may have been something special once. A 67 big block with factory roll bar and no soft top (removable hardtop only). There was no heat or radio. The only **** on the dash was lights. Check out the cars across the street. The neighbor worked in the local chevy dealer parts department.

My garage circa 1980.

And hopefully my last ghetto chop job. 2003 turbo motor into 1991 VW GTI.

Can't believe that 'stang convertible survived FIVE teenagers driving it through high school!! How many clutches did they go through before it was restored??? I know how I drove in high school, and I'm still amazed I lived through it!!

The 1959 and 1960 Corvettes were basically identical. I rebuilt a wrecked 1959 in the early 70's when I was still in my teens. I knew my parents were not going to buy a muscle car for me, though it seemed most of my friends had one. So i had to build my own. My "homegrown" held its' own with the store bought factory cars. I took great pride in knowing that I built it at that age.
