OT: Think I'll try a MINI

My wife has driven an 08 S for the last few years and she loves it. I have a blast whenever I drive it as well. My biggest issue is when I drive it, I drive it like a maniac for some reason.....it just begs to dart in and out of traffic, etc.
Unfortunately we've had more maintenance issues with the car than we would have liked. There are some known problems (mostly engine related) and we've needed to address pretty much all of them (under warranty). In each instance there were factory upgrades for the issues so we are hopeful we are past the worst of it and the car has been solid since the last major repair. We are keeping our fingers crossed that we have nothing but minor items going forward.
The is a really good forum for them with lots of information on known problems, etc:

I went and drove another Cooper S this evening. An 06 with sport suspension. Fun still, but you can't take them seriously. Also drove a nice C class Mercedes. Obviously a much different car. Another RLer has a 2010 S that I'll probably get if I go MINI. I'll try to drive a couple other cars this weekend and make a decision soon. Wonder if the 2010s had most issues sorted? He hasn't had any issues with it.

Got the MINI from a fellow RLer. Like it. Just a stock, pretty basic 2010 Cooper S in Pepper White. I don't care for the quirky interior particularly, but the car is good overall. I'll probably do a couple small mods, but nothing big at all. Maybe in a year or two I'll trade it in on an FRS or a "real car".

Sorry, the Countryman is just, well ... perhaps lets say it appeals to a subset of people, and I am not one of them. I do not like the lines at all, I have driven them, they are definitely more roomy and practical than the "classic", but the go-cart feel is not there. Hopefully good in the rough weather though...

The mini was flawless while I had it. Pretty fun car, but I just traded it in on a 2013 Scion FR-S. think I'll like this one even more. The 993 is still my pride and joy, though.
