Default OT: Think I'll try a MINI

Think the time has come to let the 968 go and get a new DD. Driving a ton of highway miles for work so I need a little something with less miles and newer, I think. Any reason I shouldn't get a 2010 Cooper S? Anybody have pics of one beside a 993? (because we all like pics)

I like the FR-S I drove, but buying a new car to put so many miles on doesn't seem ideal. Considered a couple other things, but the practicality and fun and gas mileage of the MINI seem hard to beat.

Thanks for any thoughts.

-Bart

PS - The 993 will definitely be staying.

I love driving them, but their **** poor ratings from JD Power would give me cause for concern when it came to buying one...

bought my wife a 2010 Mini, not the S, and i think it is a great car. We have had zero problems in the 2 years we have owned it (knock on wood). fun car to drive. The S is much sportier.

my other car is a 2003 MCS that I have owned (factory order) since day one.. over 8 years later, 150,000 miles, lots of track work (modded engine, suspension, etc) it's still running strong.. original clutch too!!

I love my mini! I wouldn't be scared off by JDP reviews.. a lot of it comes down to how much you care for your car.. take care of it, drive it hard.

Im keeping my Mini until it dies.. and my 993 two perfect cars! Mini has go-kart handling that cant be touched.. and pushing 210hp, so it goes. 993 is much more work to drive, you can feel the size and weight distribution difference. Different feel, but both great. you can get 30mpg+ in the mini with no issues if you don't hammer on the gas

I suggest do it, no hesitation.
My wife is kinda a car gal; bought a new Cooper S in 2006 and says best car she has ever had.
Only two little probs.......broken oil dipstick and the radiator plastic expansion tank had a small leak.
Otherwise 40k trouble free miles.
Way fun to drive (this is the supercharged version, later are turbo).
Plenty of power, brakes are phenomenal.
Suggest ditch the hard riding run-flats right away.
No squeaks, no rattles.
She lets me drive it once in a while....and I start thinking, if ever.....

I bought a Jetta TDI wagon for my boat yard in '09. I drove it for a year as dd. It was crappy in the city due to an unpredictable pause when moving from a stop, but it was agile in the twisty's, quiet and smooth on the hwy with more than adequate power. The worst mileage I got was 38mpg, but it was usually in mid-40's. I am now retired but we still have it. It has 105,000 miles and zero has gone wrong. You owe it to yourself to drive one. The fact is, it is hard to buy a bad car nowadays. Have fun shopping. You will have to listen to a lot of bs though....Chris

My wife has a 2011 Clubman S. No problem with it at all but it only has 3000 miles on it but it is very fun to drive. We will probably put it for sale soon since she never drives it. I would buy another one though, there was nothing else I liked driving that was in the same price point new.

Those do look like nice little cars but she wouldn't like it. She will want something with a more usable back seat. If we do sell the MINI we won't be replacing it anytime soon. I prefer not to sell the MINI but she thinks it is pointless since we never drive it.

I had a MINI S for 4 years and loved every minute of it. A great DD and, after some considerable mods, one of the best track cars I've owned. A blast!

Sold it to get an E46 M3. Then moved on to a Cayman S. But still would like that MINI back.

My wife bought one new in 2007. Great car and 20,000 trouble free miles.

IMHO, the 2005-2006 MCS s/c cars are the way to go vs. the turbos. Regardless, the MINI's are great cars and there's plenty of good forums out there almost as good as RL. Lots of modding equipment, too. You'll smile every time you get in the driver's seat.
