Default Fresh air flap linkage missing pieces.

Hey guys. I'm onto another DIY project on my 993. This one I need your help. I've isolated my HVAC fresh-air flap problem to a missing connection b/w the vacuum actuator and the flap as seen in my first pic (thick circle on left). It appears to me that the piece I am missing is something similar, if not the same part, as the one designated in the right circle. It appears that Porsche only sells the entire unit (actuator and flaps) as one unit for over $400. Is there a simpler way to solve my problem?

Thanks for any help -

Marc G.

You are correct. You need that "pin". If you can't order the "pin" alone, you may be able to find one at a hardware store.

I think you are right Marc, its missing the pin - it must of dropped into the abyss below. can you put in a bolt/pin to connect the two?

Yes, it seems like a simple solution, but I can't quite figure out how to do it. I think Porsche used a plastic pin that expands to secure itself like a lot of plastic fasteners on these cars.

It would be great if someone could show me more what this part looks like (actuator that sits right behind CCU) so I know exactly what I need. I was just hoping I could find another Porsche part to fit in here to work. Could anyone verify if it's the same part as the one in the right circle on my pic?

A local trip down to hardware store didn't really come up with anything. Other ideas?

You mean there is no clearance between the arms for the pin?

You can take a bolt and grind the head flat, or find a pin with a very flat thin head - I have seen them in some speciality shops.

There are some 993's being parted on the list - how about asking those guys for the pin? Salvage yards?

cheers,

Mike

I've seen this fixed the easy way by using nylon cable ties. My suggestion too would be dismantlers to get the original pins, or maybe to use bolts and self-locking nuts.
Here's a thread on the 911UK forum, a guy found out that his 993 never had a working recirc flap. You also see the cable tie mod.
Cheers,
Tore

Yes Mike, it is. Here's a picture with the CCU out.

I had the same. Used a nylon tie strip for temporary use but is still in place after a year. Make sure to install in such a way that the flap will fully close by the vacuum actuator to avoid irritating noises.
