Bought my first porsche in 1997, a 1985 3.2 Carrera in Singapore (working here since 1991). and still consider myself a bit of a baby in the Porsche family

Moved through the ranks to a 964 Carrera 4, a 993 Carrera 2, a 993 C4S (bought in my home country as a holiday car and still have that car today though rarely get to use it as working my butt off in Singapore still- all my other cars bought in and used in Singapore), 996TT, a 997 GT3R S and reached the pinnacle of Porsche ownership with a 2008 Cayenne Turbo S at the prime age of 41...

I got mine a few months ago (when I was still 22); they aren't super hard to acquire when young - plenty of young guys, younger than me even, buy M3s, GTRs, etc. (with their own money) - but the 993, and Porsches in general, are probably less likely to appeal to young buyers because the cars are by no means performance bargains and older, air-cooled 911s require the owner to be very knowledgable about how the car works and operates, something young guys may not have the time / inclination for. That said, I have no regrets about my choice and prefer the unique driving and ownership experiences, along with the tactility and feedback of the controls over having something that's newer and faster, but just an ordinary car compared to an iconic time capsule.

Funny thing is you can roll this back the 30+ years when I was new to these and substitute Camaro/Trans-Am and 240/260/280Z for your M3 and GTR (the concept of a "fast" BMW didn't really exist in 1980). A 911 of any old, affordable vintage was stupid overpriced for what you got.

U-m-m-m-m...I think I have a photo of that car in one of my many albums (For you younger guys, we used to keep actual paper photos in actual paper books)...Seems like only a couple of racing seasons ago!

I hear ya, however I want to get my feet wet with some rental properties and finish my b.s before I buy any car over 40k... sometimes I get sad but I'm content with my few year old Audi's and a 951 for now
Congrats on the 993 though, what a beautiful car. GTR is blah in my book.

51 the end of the month. Porsche's have been bookends in my life, got my first 911 at 26...then waaaay more misc american/euro crap in between. LOTS of money thrown at stuff to try to make it fast and/or cool, ended up making most of them neither.

I ain't getting any better looking, smarter, or F*%#*IU# tolerant. Emphasis on the rant.
