Default Custom Front Plate suggestions....

Guys,

I just moved to CA where Im required to have a front license plate, Im going to miss my plateless 993 front end...

Im looking for an outfit that makes a custom plate frame (with hardware) that positions it better than the OEM position....Im thinking lower and inclined forward, low profile.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!!!

In reference to the attachment point, this goes backward.
If the below photos are what you're looking for (especially if you have a non-Turbo front bumper), then you may be looking for the Inventiva frame.

You may find other good info here searching RL threads, and / or contacting the manufacturer directly.

Leon-- Good luck, and please let us know what solution you choose by posting pics of your mod!

Below is an option if you have a Turbo bumper and like the following look.

You can find more info by clicking these hyperlinks for my DIY details ~3 years ago on the "Rennlist/ PCA member's 993 SPEEDSTER" thread:
-2009's page five and page six
-March 2011's page 30, a summary for TommyG when he asked how to mod.

Good to see what MagDaddy, JPP, etc., have since done with Mike J's idea.
The following's from Mike J's "Sold the Targa" thread:

Looking to do the same. Thanks

My state requires a front plate, so I've studied Mike J's repeatedly.
Instead of cutting edges, I folded, then covered with clearbra.
[Caveat: possible that bottom should ideally be >12 inches above ground, & face shouldn't be angled. ...Add that to your endless mod list.]

Regarding air flow, no negative aspect, IMHO. IIRC, neither oil cooler nor A/C compressor are impacted in the center.
Thanks for an attractive option, Mike!

Shouldn't cause any issues - just fabricate a couple of brackets to attach to the lower grill a make sure the plate is at 90 degrees to the ground.

IIRC, that would appease laws of some jurisdictions.

^^^ and I'll add that mine is a California car as well .. and I've had NO problems with it mounted low and slightly kicked back .. I've got the bay area Fastrak electronic bridge toll system which snaps a picture of the plate going through the turnstile's and I've had NO trouble ..

Leon-- Hope the above details help.
I just noticed your below post on the "Inventiva Lic Plate Holder installed w/pics" thread, where much of the preceding info was discussed.
Are you after something else?

You know .. I've always thought that the same method as I and other's have used .. bending the plate 90 degrees at the top and bottom ... would work for a standard narrow body front bumper opening as well, then you could just attach the plate flush against the center of the grill and use zip tye's through the existing plate mounting holes to secure it.

I have a bracket that screws into the tow hook threads so the plate is offset to the side. That being said I'm going to go back to the original setup soon. If you want to try it, lmk. I'm in socal too.

There is a big thread on this in the Ferrari Chat Ca section. Best responses: take the back plate off too. You have more of a chance getting pulled over or ticketed by the parking ***** if you only have the back plate on. No plates = less problems.

Leon993, I just took my Inventaframe off since I converted to a turbo bumper. I had it mounted for about a year and have all the hardware and template for the installation. It works really well.
PM me if you are interested.

That solution is a good way to get the police to pull you over. In CA, I ran without my plates for a day or two while I modified them. I was pulled over by the police twice in two days. The only reason I wasn't ticketed is I had them on the passenger seat and told the cop I was just on my way to the hardware store to get the parts to attach them.

By the way, here's my car with the Invetiva front plate:

Not a fan of the "alternative" front plate locations. If I were forced to have one I'd just use the stock location, it just looks better..

Right now my front license plate stays under my seat. I have double sided tape on it and whenever I have to park on the street I just stick it on the bumper. Then put it back in the wax paper and I'm done with it.

Goofballdeluxe, please pass on your wisdom, how did you mount the plate with the turbo bumper. The tabs on the plate is right where the tabs for the front mesh are located. Unless you cut the tabs off the bumper for the mesh????
