Default Need color dye help (black/classic grey)

I have some 996GT3 hardbacks in black that I am considering dyeing classic grey. I also have a 3 spoke steering wheel in black I would like to dye again.

I'm hoping someone here can just tell me what brand and color you have used in the past, verbatim for black and classic grey.

Thanks,
Tony

Generally you will be very very very disappointed with the results of going from a darker to a lighter color. You can dye grey seats black, but to try and go the other way round is just asking for trouble. In this case, you are not dyeing them you are really painting them.... Dye wont work and paint will wear off.

I'm interested in a dye as well. Want to dye my classic grey dash to black. Any ideas? I'm reading the paint on kind is better than spray on. Any brand recommendations?

Default Dye color change over time

Over time, the dye will wear in high wear areas and the character lines/creases will show the original color rather than the surface color.

I have heard a mix bag of results and I also think that is true, meaning people have had a varying level of success.

One thought is I could take my black seats to classic grey.

The other thought is to take rear seats from classic grey to black. (buy a used set to do this to). Makes me a bit nervous.

I did and, after doing the recommended prep, used Color Plus classic grey to refresh and redye my classic grey interior last summer. That included hard back sport seats, air bag cover, hand brake handle and center console. I used a brush, not spray. I'm pleased with the results and the color match was perfect. Although some of these items are vinyl, not leather, it didn't make any difference in the attractiveness of the finished result.

If you do this, the weather should be warm or items should be removed and done indoors. Also, work with good lighting. Finding and removing the few stray bristles that come off the brush is much easier before the dye dries.

these seats were orginally colored using a similar process to what you can do yourself with products like ColorPlus.

The original seat color wears off also.
It is all in the prep... similar to paintwork.
Going from light to dark is not a problem.

Yes, going from black to classic grey.

Mark, what is your opinion on success of going lighter?
