Default New Sony headunits w/ integrated iPod player...would it work in the 993?

Ok, I know this thing doesn't look OEM at all...but I am slightly intrigued with the functionality and not having to add wires in the car. Right now I have the CR210 w/ tape deck and CD changer in the trunk. The changer is old, has trouble playing burned disks and takes up a lot of room in the trunk.

Therefore, has anyone tried the Sony unit or know if it would work in the 993? I am also just considering going with a basic headunit that looks more stock but has an indash CD and iPod connectivity w/ BT if possible. Any recs are appreciated. Thanks.

Personally, I think the Parrot unit is a little bit more suited to the 993's interior. The central **** is a little BMW iDrive-ish, but visually it's just a little less "flashy" that the offerings from Sony and Alpine (and others).......IMHO of course.

I agree it looks more suited for the 993...is this model a direct fit into the 993 in place of the CR210? Thanks!

That will fit, but I would assume it will take a bit of wiring work to connect. That is cool how it holds the iPod.

Yeah, nothing is really going to be plug-n-play. Doesn't matter if it's Sony or Parrot, it is going to require some amount of wiring for power, ground, speaker connection, etc.

The only plug-n-play option I can think of is the newer CDR220 from Becker with their iPod adapter. I *think* all the OEM plugs on the back of the radio will mate right up with a 993.

If you buy from Crutchfield, they should be able to supply a harness that you can wire to the unit an then plug in.

Reviews on the Parrot are pretty spotty ... hmmm. Cool idea, though.

Why not just get a CDR220 or Traffic Pro, then add a iPod cable? Factory, no wire cutting, & it looks perfect!

Hi Mike,

Not sure of the features of the CDR220 - does it have bluetooth for calling? Full iPod/iPhone integration?

Cheers,

Mike

Speaking of CDR220... I have the Harmo/Karden version with the NAV (Becker Traffic Pro). was there ever an update from version 2 cd?
