Well, let's see. Got my first Porsche in 1969 and in the 42 years since then, I have owned eight different P-cars. When I think back about the many cars I've owned and sold, it was usually the need to upgrade. I've never been able to afford a new P-car, so usually ended up buying older ones that required wrenching (which I really like to do). I would do whatever work was necessary to get them back on the road and then drive them for about 1 to 2 years.
I usually lose interest in the cars because I "grew into them" and never felt that I had enough power to go fast. It didn't help that most of the moves with my company put me in cities located in flat land areas without any "Porsche roads" to make my driving life interesting. In addition to career, there was family, which took up most of the rest of my time......so, I never was able to justify the time and cost to participate in racing or sporting events with any of the cars.
But, that was then. And now my family is grown......and I am semi-retired.....AND, I now have a 993 that has all the power I was missing all those years. Though I have owned the 993 only 5 months, the excitement of getting into it is not deminishing. And, the car is capable of things way beyond my capabilities, so I doubt that I will tire of pushing it.
I forgot to mention that at last count, I have owned, over my life, 47 cars! And, of all the marques out there, the Porsche is the ONLY one that I have come back to (8 times). I guess that says something about the cars, right?
Over the past 20 years I've owned about 12 different Porsche's. I tend to keep them about 2-3 years and sell them. I've had my 73 911S for 6 years and I'll never sell it; it's the favorite of all I've owned. Worse was an 02 996 cab, lots of quality control issues, had the engine replaced at 10K mile (RMS). I'm always on the hunt for the next car....
i have had mine for a year... and in fact i was worried when i bought the car i would have my eyes on other cars all the time. Of course i look at 993TTs and Gt3s like the rest of us but for the most part I look at other cars all the time thinking I dont want them over my 993.
Five years and 42k glorious, happy miles later, my '98 C2S is stuck with me 'til death or damage do us part, and frankly, I'm rooting for the former around, oh, 2061.
