How Long do you keep your Porsches?
As you can tell from my signature, I have owned a number of Porsches. On average, I keep them for 24 months - even though my 997, 85 Cab, and previous 993 I kept for less than 6 months.
I have owned my current 993 for 3 years and my 996 for 6 months. I don’t think I will own my 993 past the summer of 2012. I have narrowed my choices to 3 cars, when I sell my 993: - 997 S - 996 Turbo - 996 GT3 I love the look and sound of my 993, but I gotta tell you, I like driving a newer car :) |
I've had my 993 for 7 years. It's the only Porsche I've ever owned. Don't plan on selling anytime soon. I track the crap out of it and the new Porsches I've encoutered on the track haven't justified getting anything newer. Although, 996TT prices are getting real attractive. Too bad the front end of the car isn't.

10 years and counting...

5+ years with the 95, almost 3 with the 97.

10 on the 911. Can't afford to sell her.

I am about 24 months like you. Doesn't matter how much I love it at the time, I eventually have eyes for something else...

That's why "building" one is different. It's always evolving and you get the sense of accomplishment.

I love the look and sound of my 993, but I gotta tell you, I like driving a newer car :) Newer cars have all these annoying things (not all of these are Porsche quirks): * can't start the car unless your foot is on the brake * can't shift out of park unless your foot is on the brake * lights/bells that don't quit if you don't have your seatbelt on * legalese on Nav screens that you must push a button to get rid of * electronic babysitters that actually control the car, and not you Etc., etc., etc. Not to mention that most new cars have every bit of information about the way you are driving that can be used against you. It's like having a narc riding shotgun with you LOL! Call it Big Brother, call it Nanny State, but up until all the crap listed above found it's way into cars, I preferred the newer cars too. Now I prefer my 993 over a 997 for all the reasons listed above. And then some. P.S. I've had my C4S for 6 years  |
8 years as of this July 4th with my 95 C4.

7+ years. I almost sold mine and the decision NOT to sell her was one of the best I made. I dont really consider myself a car guy, but rather a 911 guy and there isnt a 911 I can think of that I would rather own and KEEP than my 993TT. I definitely want to get a 997+ GT3 RS someday, but with these "modern" models, I would be more interested in leasing and then getting the next best model. With the 993, its timeless and I hope to own her for as long as I can.

Lets see, first one, my first car, 40 years and counting... and my boys will be driving it after I'm long gone...
|
Coming up on 1 year with my 993. Had my 964 for 2 years. Honestly, can't see myself selling my C4S for quite a while. Really don't know what i'd replace it with other than a 993 TT!!

5 years, 2 months for the turbo. Don't remember how long I owned previous ones.
