12v power sources?
I'm so used to having more than one 12v power source available to me in the cockpit that having only the single outlet in the 993 is getting difficult to 'work around'. I tried the 'double' and 'triple' socket 'into one' route but it looks messy and tends to almost fall out of the cig lighter outlet.
I used the 'double' socket to get across the country with the GPS and Escort plugged in but time for something a little more 'elegant' I think.
I'm sure someone has a suggestion or two? Looks like I need to get thru to the luggage boot fuse box if I want to supply a separate 'accessory' bus located somewhere under/behind the dash. Or is there another way to skin this kitty...?

Well...I thought there would be more folks using more 'stuff' in the cockpit and consequently requiring access to 12v, but perhaps not judging by the response.
OK, so I'll start digging and post a DIY !!

Nice! 2 questions: 1, whats behind the carpet where you mounted the 3 hole'r? No problem drilling and screwing? 2, where did you get the power for the 3 hole'r?

It works great when the Wife & I do trips. She can plug in her iPhone, her iPad, & I can still run the radar, & play my iPod.

Same issues here; GPS and Escort.
The dam double-plug in the lighter socket gets pushed out plus it's too big and looks messy.
Can't mount anything on top of the console because the control for the cd player is there.
Would love to find a more functioning double plug that stays in the socket.

Navigation is in the Becker...and so is the rest that i may need (music and telephone)...why do you need more than 1 connector??
If there is any permanent devices such as Police scanner, i'd make a permanent 12V connection for it!

Hmmm, interesting nerve...sorta like a knee reflex test, one tap and watch out! I'm not lucky enough to have the nav included in the Blaupunkt Atlanta, I have to use one of those things that plugs into 12v somewhere.
And I like maps but not while I'm trying to navigate a strange route...
The Escort is frowned upon here north of the 47th parallel so it sometimes needs to be stowed fairly quickly...
I use my car sometimes for days at a time, like 500-600 mile days, and not having Sirius Radio available in the P-car means I need to plug in the Nano every now and then to be able to listen to the end of that lovely lecture series on the CBC podcast Ideas.
Even the sweet drone of the classic 6 can be numbing after 4 hrs in the morning on a 4 lane hwy.
So I'll find a solution and post the pictures for all the non ludites :-).

I've hardwired both my V1 and an iPod adapter, tapping into the circuit for the sunroof both times. Plenty of juice and splicing within the center console was easy enough. My 12v socket is now free and clear for any GPS or cell phone charger etc.
I don't really like long trips with all manner of coiled wires and plugs looking like some kind of strange turn of the century telephone switch, so I went with the hardwired approach. My power cord for the V1 runs up along the headliner and tucks away under the passenger visor when not in use. And my iPod hookup hides under the handbrake just as unobtrusively.
Before I got around to doing this, I would modify my V1 plug by unscrewing the cap (like I was replacing the fuse) and rescrewing it with only one of the two prongs underneath the rim. This gave it a little extra width to fit snugly into the socket. I also got one of those sleeve adapters from Escort's website but that didn't really have much of an impact; plug modification works better, IMO.
While I feel like the ashtray is calling out to have some type of hidden plug or connector, I haven't gotten that adventurous yet.
Good luck!

I hear ya! Been sitting looking at the 'not an ashtray' for awhile now. Gotta be a way to put a 2 plug outlet in there, so that when you needed it you could just tap it...and 2 hidden 12v outlets come into view.
On both the Gold Thing and the BMW RT I used a separate bus with its own fuse panel wired directly from the battery. Much neater and saves having a bunch of connectors all jammed together at the positive terminal of the main battery. There are some nice units like this one from Centech that would do the job.

Like you I hate having the 'spaghetti' look in the cockpit. Nice neat installation is my goal every time. Trick is even better!
