I have 12+ year old PSS9 on my 993, and for the most part, they have been great. I use the car primary for Autocross and some DD. Last year, the adjustment **** on the left rear, stopped turning. After a few attempts, the **** started to turn, but now it just turns freely, so I have actually NO idea what it is actually set to (1-9).
Looking at rebuilding vs replacing, and if replacing, then with what? PSS10, KWV3, etc.
... but I do want to address the broken adjustment ****, and maybe take the opportunity to make it a "little better" for AX and street driving.
Any recommendations??
Call Bilstein and ask them to rebuild your shocks, likely that rear pair, but they'll advise you. The PSS9 are perfectly capable of delivering genuinely good AX and track performance while still offering superb street performance, the latter of which is a tough balance between firm control and not beating you up with road irregularities.
If you want "a little better" of a setup, don't look to shocks, look to seat time. Seriously, not being snippy here. There is no shortage of coilovers out there that will offer you "more" than the PSS9, or even the 10s, for that matter. But for what you are asking your suspension to do, I can tell you a properly tuned suspension system as you already have it is far and away better and more capable than we weekend warriors. It's a lot easier to spend money on a mod than it is to shave off seconds at the track. FWIW, I've had the PSS9s on my 993 for maybe 90k miles and they are still great. And the turbo AR bars (22mm F/20mm R, correct?) are superb for street/track use. You want more neutral (less understeer) find the RoW rear bar (21mm), or get adjustables to fine tune to your preference, but that's nitpicking as what you have will already serve more than well. That is my "recommendation" anyway
thanks for the advise... I ended up getting the PSS10's... Crazy good deal... $3k with install, brand new. So now I have a set of PSS9's in my basement. Will check with Billstine about refreshing them, or just sell them to some one here... Any takers??
I get about 15-20 AX days a year, so seat time is not the problem. I think I am pushing the car/suspension/tires to the limit. I had a transmission failure last year, and with the rebuild installed a TBD from Guard (Had an open diff before). This has made a big difference, but now I am killing my rear tire side walls... After 3 events on new RE71, I had no side wall left.
I have the 21mm on a shelf, but never used it. Have the original (18mm I think) on the rear. I would think that if I swapped for the 21mm rear, that would make the car more stiff, and since I DO NOT track it, not sure what that would give me.

Before you sell em off or toss em try this. Spray penetrating oil (something better than WD40) between the **** and the body of each of the shocks. Let it soak for a few days with repeated applications of oil. Then try working the ***** around and spray some more oil. You maybe surprised to find they resume back to normal operation.
To understand why the above is possible you have to understand how the PSS9 adjusters operate. That detent feel is an external ball and spring that rests in the corresponding dents on backside of the ****. With road use (and Boston corrosion) that detent plunger gets bound up and the dents in **** gets filled with grime. Even in our tempered NorCal Climate I have to keep mine clean for proper feel.
The 10’s don’t work the same way as the 9’s so you’ll never have a problem with em.

Get bushings for the 21mm rear bar (stock rubber is quietest and plenty good for a street/AX car, imo) and install it; it's a considerable increase in rear roll stiffness that will absolutely be a felt improvement in your ability to rotate the car, particularly since you do AX which offers far tighter and more consecutive turns than a road course. As for wearing the rear sidewalls, my immediate inclination is that you're running too low a pressure and are rolling the tire onto its sidewalls. Do you check your hot air pressures for all 4?
Glad I found this thread. I am looking to refresh my suspension as well with about 80% road 20% track use. Really want Ohlins but they are $6k now for a set. Anyone able to compare those to the KW v3 or Clubsport and PSS10?

I just bought these Ohline R&T (POR-GP01) and it is possible to get them cheaper, though probably not at PSS/KW prices.
List in USA seems to be $6490+tax(+maybe shipping). I bought from design911 in UK for $5576 + $174 import duty (total $5750 at my door). However, I made a mistake at checkout and forgot to apply a 10% discount I had.
If design911 had honored the discount, I estimate my total cost including import duty would have been $5350. Not chump, change but a useful discount over list.
Final opinion will be after I've fitted and used them for a while.
But my decision to buy was basically because: I've read many OEM v Pss v Kw v Moton v Etc threads and generally, feedback is all over the place. Understandable because we all have different standards, reference points and desires.
I've also experienced a few coilover setups and most were not for me, although I suspect owner setup was obviously a big factor in how they felt.
I've not read an unsatisfactory review of the Ohlins R&T (there aren't many to start with....) and that may be because someone dropping this amount of coin on something is less likely to admit they aren't worth it - or it may be because these are just really good. I decided to find out. Eventually I will try to do an honest thread on them. There were more deciding factors, but that is it in a nutshell.

I have MCS 2-Way Non Remote on my 993 and they are fantastic. Ive had them on 2 cars now and Ill only use them from now on. Plus they are made in the US and support is great. The guys are super helpful and easy to get a hold of. 3650$ is the current price and worth every penny.

Easiest way is to call MCS and talk about exactly what you want from them...then I ordered them through elephant racing and they new to look out for the invoice. Was easy as could be.
Any upsides/downsides to getting the remote versus non remote?
i think for our cars its limited, especially for street use. Theoretically its more volume, variable pressure which can reduce heat, foaming and fade or deriorating performance under high stress activity. Travel benefit likely not an issue in 993. One possible benefit is easier reach to 1 of the damping adjusters (i think the compression adjuster is on the reservoir). However rebound is still on shock top which is a pain to reach either way.
