WTK: OBX LSD experience?
#2
I do not have experience but is costs just 33% of the other LSD options that are proven to be reliable. At some point, you get what you pay for. When I did the research, I ended up with Steve Weiners recommendation: OS Gyken which costed around 1500 USD. Guards has very good reputation, too but is more expensive.

Right, that's exactly why I'm interested. Guards, Quaife, factory LSDs (new) are 3-4x the cost of the OBX, with the obvious caveat that, as with most things, YGWYPF usually applies. Tempted to to give it a go anyway (along with a new clutch & LWFW).
Thanks!

I have experience with the obx lsd for Honda. It is a copy of the quaife helical lsd. Our problems were not with the parts themselves, but with the pre-assembly from the obx factory. Generally, if you bought an obx lsd, you had to take it fully apart and re-assemble it properly. People would find that sometimes these lsds were not assembled properly (shims backwards...etc) from the factory. Once re-assembled, they worked fine.

ande5000.
I have just had installed a new Porsche Motorsports 4 plate 40/65 LSD. Prior to this I had now LSD fitted from factory.
Unless you are doing this job yourself the labour involved to install and shim an LSD firt time for lash etc is in the region of 12 hrs plus dropping the tranny. Essentially almost half the cost of having an LSD is the install. For this reasonI woul not go through this cost without being 100% satiisfied what you are installing is reliable and will work. The concequences of a faulty unit or install woyl ddbe 1000 usd+ of labour all over again!
You can see pics of my install on my thread "self gratification with pictures..."

This isn't a set of shocks or springs. Why would you try something as highly mechanical and potentially costly if it doesn't work, without some pretty compelling and concrete evidence as to its quality and durability. I'd guess that this is all but unheard of here-I know I'd never heard the name prior to your thread.

You gotta be kidding? Tempted "anyway"?
