Default Interesting 'msroadrace' Ebay listing...

This is not the first time I've stumbled across one of his listings and felt something was off, or not necessarily as represented.

In this case, the seller (msroadrace) is peddling a set of "new" 993 turbo 'Big Red' calipers. Since I'm always sniffing around Ebay for 993 stuff, this listing just stood out to me. Why? I've never seen a set of 993 calipers, or 964 calipers for that matter, where everything is painted over. Bleed nipple caps, stainless pad spring, etc. Certainly not on my car, or the countless other 993s I've checked out in the last 5 years.

Was I wrong to call his auction into question?

Here's the auction: 993 Big Red calipers

Here's our exchange:

(Seller) You know I got this over the week end & ponder how should I respond? Perhaps this person who has not quite 300 feedbacks, was looking over my shoulder when we purchased them? Or perhaps after owning a single 911 is now a expert, having owned more than the 3000 I have owned, or perhaps his average monthly bill is significantly greater than the $100,000 we already spend, or just maybe is just trying to irritate me, or is it all of that mentioned? makes me wonder

Best Regards-
Dave

(Me) You sell enough Porsche parts to know that these calipers are repainted. They are not "new" and you should revise your listing to reflect that. These calipers have NEVER come from Porsche or Brembo with bleed nipple caps and pad hardware painted over.

No, I think you're right about the calipers.

But now Dave will have to sell one of his 3000 Porsches to feed his 7 children Top Ramen because of you. I just hope you're happy with yourself, fancy clock making dude.

I think you are correct. I have bought quite a few brand new Big Reds from the dealer over the years (Used to use them on Audi's for brake upgrades) and I have NEVER seen a single one that had the brake pad retaining spring or bleeder caps painted red. On top of that, the clip that holds the sensor wire is a separate part as well and wouldn't be included with a new caliper.

His monthly bill is a hundred grand and he has 3,000 Porsches?

I'm in the wrong biz.

I was putting together a set of big reds from various sources so I had a saved eBay search for red porsche brakes. I had seen several of the msroadrace items for sale that, like you, i didn't think were new. I did however see their listing for a new left rear caliper (only available in Germany right now) and it looked new. I clicked the buy-it-now and had the caliper in a couple days. And it is new but was not less money than Sunset.

These guys charge the maxium for all used or NOS P-car parts.
I dont know about the rest of the community by I personally dont like paying triple the going market rate for used parts.

AOW = correct

FWIW, I dealt with msroadrace a couple of years ago on some NOS parts and he was cool when there was a problem. He does a lot with NOS parts and handled it well...

This one, maybe not so much
