For the low beam, you can stuff the ballast inside the bucket. For the hi beam, it will have to be installed outside somewhere

I just installed a DDM tuning kit in my low beam socket, works great, got a 35W 5000K kit. Was $45 plus shipping around $62 total

Maybe it's just me but I really don't see the benefit of putting HIDs on the high beams. The lows are so much better that I find I almost never need the highs and the few times I want the high beams it's usually to flash the lights, something you really can't do with the HIDs. The factory must have thought so too as they never offered a high beam HID option AFAIK.

Oh right, an unsolicited testimonial.
+1 No question, just a little too convenient with the links and all from a first time poster.

I had great success with Xenondepot 35W, 4300k, and slim ballasts. Highly recommend.

I keep hearing that people only use the lows with HID. I use the highs alot - live in a somewhat rural area with no street lights and deer. Good suggestion to upgrade the highs with the Silverstars.

My PO installed 6000K bought from fjt2000 on ebay.

I live up in the hills so the last few miles coming home at night is fairly rural—coyotes and deer are pretty common. I get good enough performance out of the SIlverlight High beams, they throw light far enough out ahead of the HIDs. They are not as bright or as blue, but I can pick stuff up pretty far out. I don't really see a need for HIDs there. would be kinda cool I suppose, but for me it would be overkill, plus I don't wanna deal with the drilling.

Not sure what drilling is being referred to. My carnewal setup required NO mods. It is much better than stock, particularly peripheral.

Resurrecting. I have the HID from Vertex on the low, which I think is the H1 bulb. I'm upgrading my Turbo bumper to include brake cooling and foglight. Any reason not to slap on an H3 bulb xenon upgrade on the fog/driving lights?

Also, I guess the reason not to upgrade the high beams is the warm up period? I'm guessing they wouldn't work so well in a high beam flash situation?

Finally, any comparison on the DDM vs. the Vertex? DDM pretty cheap, slim, hard to find a reason not to?

Putting HIDs in the high beams will produce a lot of unwanted stray light in the car's near field. That's not where you want the light to be when using the high beams.
I know, I removed mine after some days of experimenting.
Cheers,
Tore

JPS,
im thinking about doing fog lights with the DDM 35w H3 5000 (or 4500?) kit. the car came to me with HID low beams but id like to get the fogs sorted out. I was either going to just bite the bullet and do it myself or wait of my electronics installer to do it for me... not sure which route im going to take... the install does look fairly straight forward

Really want to do this conversion to my 993. Where can I buy the one I don't have to drill at?

well, your not drilling the main housing, but the hinged removable part.

Drilling directly behind the bulb is important, because the bulb is so damn big that it really extends to the rear of the housing.

If anyone screws up on the drilling...I have 2 each L& R housings to salvage covers from.

Don't ask why
