Question Another heated seat question

Does anyone know for sure if the early '95 993's are pre-wired for heated seats? I have a 993 born in October 1994 with "Adaptive Sports seats" option and would like to have heated seats - if there are wires in the seats and I just need to have someone wire them to the fuse block, add switch, etc. I would be very interested. I tried the search option but didn't find a definitive answer. Thanks for any help.

My 11/94 build has heated regular (non sport) seats.

Was that an option on your car or did you just find the wires and hook them up?

My build date was 6/94 and my heated seats were an option as well. They are not sport seats.

I have a 95 with factory heated non-sport seats. It's very comfortable with the top down on a cool morning. Not sure of the build date however.

Peter:

I researched this, as I would like to add heated seats to my '96.

The heating elements & switches are all built into the seat. So you would need to buy a pair of heated seats & swap them out.

However, I could not get a definitive answer on whether the power hookup is the same for heated vs. non heated power-adjustable seats.

I planned to buy a set of heated seats, install them, then sell my old ones (in pretty good shape) to offset the cost.

Never have found a heated set.

If anyone can confirm if the connector is the same, I'd appreciate it.

Good luck!

Paul.

I got heated sport seats in the 95 C4.

Just about any good shop should be able to install heated elements in the seats. Personally, I don't care for the stock switches, they are hard to get at. If I were to go aftermarket, the center console would be a great place for the switches.

Wiring is already in the connector.

If I remember correctly Rhino on this board redid his interior with aftermarket seat heaters with switches on the center console. Search his name.

I had stock power seats (no heat) in my 02/94 build and recently replaced them with heated power hardback sport seats from a 96 turbo. The plugs matched right up and the heat controls (as mentioned above) are built into the seat. Everything works like a charm!

Things are fairly simple in 993 seat world:

1. Seat heating pads are built into the seats themselves

2. The heater switch is also built into teh seat (this unlike 996 and 997 seats)

3. No, the seats are not "pre-wired".

To make them heated you have to take seats apart, install heating elements than install a switch. the problem, specifically, with 993 seats is that the leather cover is actually stitched to the foam underneath. So it is really not trivial to install the heating pads. One option is to put the pads underneath the foam, but I question the efficiency of this solution.

I've been trying to reverse-engineer all this for the past 7 years as I know the pleasure of a cab with heated seats. So far I've had heated Recaros in my first cab and a set of fully power and heated 997 seats stashed in the basement waiting to be put into the current 993 cab. That is also far from trivial, btw. But you get the idea - I've pretty much given up on trying to heat the stock 993 seats.

For what it's worth, I have a 1997 993 with a build date of 11/96. It had the stock, standard equipment, partial power, partial leather seats. I wanted heated seats, so I did some research and found that the seat heater/switch wiring was already there in the stock wiring harness/seat connector. All I had to do was find a nice set of heated 993 seats. In the meantime, I found that you could install 996 seats in the 993 with a slight modification to the seat rails. I was able to find a great set of 996 all-leather, heated seats, so I bought them. Again, all the circuits were there, I just needed to modify the 996 seat connectors to plug into the correct positions on the 993 wiring harness. By the way, the seat heater circuit is 'switched', meaning there will only be power to the seat heaters when the key is turned 'on' (car doesn't have to be running). This is so you don't accidentally drain your battery by forgetting to turn off the seat heater. Anyway, the 993 and 996 seat circuits are the same. The other issue to deal with if you go with 996 heated seats is that the switches for the 996 seat heaters are mounted in the center console (the 993 seat heater switches are mounted directly on the side of the seats). I found a good place to install the 996 seat heater switches directly under the front of each seat, you can't see them at all but they are very easy to reach. I love the heated seats, and it was a lot easier to find 996 seats for a good price. In fact, I like them a lot more than my stock 993 seats. I posted some info about it in this thread....https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...onversion.html Good luck....Paul

PStraub:

So how do you like the 996 seats over the 993 seats?

Thanks,

Paul.
