Default Cashmere to black conversion

In the 4 years I have had my 993, the only thing I really did'nt care for was the all-cashmere interior. I thought a Guards Red car should have a black interior. There were a few pieces of black trim, so the potential was there to convert to black down the road. I had my upper and lower dash re-covered in black leather, along with the center console and door trim panels (great work by the 928 Leather Shop). Those were big improvements, but until I tackled the seats, it would always feel like a cashmere interior. In the last couple months, I found a beautiful pair of black leather seats (with seat heaters and Porsche crest ).They were like brand new, out of a very low mileage 996 S, and with minor modification, installed nicely into my 993. Front seats done! Now for the rear, didn't really want to spend the money, so decided to try Surflex and dye the cashmere pieces black. This stuff is amazing, they all came out looking like stock black from the factory. I did the seat pads and seat backs, the 'armrests' on the interior rear panels, and the large rear panel under the speaker shelf. Bottom line, now it's a black interior with cashmere trim instead of the opposite. Thanks to many in this forum for their DIY work, fitting 996 seats into a 993 and changing cashmere vinyl to black with Surflex. Man, I love the new look and the seat heaters are amazing on a cold morning . Here are some before and after pics.....

That looks fantastic. The two tone really turned out to look sharp.

Great look! As you know I am going the other direction hoping for the same outcome. With help from fellow listers' I have some cashmere door panels, center console trim piece, and some cashmere suflex coming this week.

Looks great! How do the 996 seats feel compared to the 993 ones?

Really great, they seem to have more support than the stock 993 seats. Maybe it's just because they are several years newer. And of course, my 993 seats were not heated, so that was a huge upgrade to me. The challenge was the wiring. The seat heater switches on a 996 are oval, so there was no clean place to install them on the 993 panels. I ended up installing them under the front-center of the seats. You can't see them, but they are in a perfect position to just reach down and set the heater to high or low. I found a piece of 996 trim that was meant to house the switches. I cut it in half (one side for each seat) and just modified the housing so it mounts solid under the seat, no interference to seat movements.

Looks great -- to my eye, the only thing missing is black floor mats.

Looks outstanding! Are you going to change to black floormats or stay with the cashmere mats? I put black mats in my cashmere/beige Cayenne because of the dirt showed too much on the beige, worked well, like the contrast.

That's a great look, Paul. Your car keeps looking better and better. Also liking the black wheels...very mean and purposeful.

Good eye, yes, just ordered black floor mats from FD Motorsports, can't wait to get them. They are going to have 'PORSCHE' embroidered in cashmere thread. That should leave just 'enough' cashmere, just to add contrast to all the black. I like the two-tone, but only when black is the primary color. Thanks.

Hey Jack, it's been awhile! My turn to buy coffee, I am back in Atlanta for a week, arriving next Saturday, staying at the DoubleTree Suites Galleria (same place on Windy Ridge). Would be great to meet for coffee sometime that week.
