Heard Alvin moved back home overseas without notice. Atan888's most recent post was in 2011, re: his BMW.

In 2010 he gave me a 'test flight' in his Turbo, Big Bird. His 993 has since sold & been on RL several times.
Two of many related RL threads: 2011's "Interesting 'Big Bird' turbo fs,"
...& 2012's "Mecum Auction 1996 3.8 C4 twin turbo" thread.

Parked next to it at a 2011 PCA event & talked to the guy who bought it after Atan888. PCA staff videoed it & the owner, who then put the car on eBay (2011 link & photos are still active!).
There's a 2012 update on germanCarsForSaleBlog.com's "Big Bird: 600 HP 1996 Porsche 993 For Sale With No Reserve."
According to a comment posted there, the auction closed at $94,500.
Last year I re-sent an old PM to Alvin; hopefully we'll hear from him here soon

Alvin-- In the off chance you're anywhere you can see this: give me a shout.
Check out 'your' Big Bird, meeting up with Speedy again:
From the "Legends of the Autobahn" thread...

NorCal RLers: FWIW, United Auto Collision Center in Burlingame (just off Broadway and 101) did the body work on Big Bird and Alvin had pretty exacting standards. They are good guys!

Who of you old timers remembers the humble origins of BIG BIRD? Adam's RUF C4S. Man, those were fun threads.

BUT ... admittedly fun, but Alvin cost me a bunch of $$$. I was pretty much mod free until then. Been sliding since.

I remember the Adam posts and his spunktacular website. Very funny stuff. Are those old posts still around? I couldn't find them.

Aw yes, that's the thread! So much comedy. His blog seems to be active. Hope he's doing well, 10 years on.

The motor build went wrong. The oil pressure was VERY low at idle. Instead of tearing into the motor and fixing the problem they bypassed the low oil pressure warning light.

The problem was from cross drilling the crank to aggressively. That caused it to bleed off too much oil pressure at idle.

Alvin got screwed badly on that whole deal. I know a LOT more than I care to reveal online. Needless to say I would heed Pirahna's advise.

I wonder if the new owner ever got the problems resolved? Alvin put a ton of money in that car

Right. On the chassis, on the 1000000000HP turbo engine that was an impulse buy off of Craigslist, on the end result. (I think I emailed Alvin about the engine, when he concurrently found the ad himself. Always felt bad about that.)

How difficult is it to make it run again? New block? Not as aggressive of a tune. All the plumbing is there.
