Default Motor mounds

Hello, When does one need to change motor mounts (if at all)? What are the advantages of changing out the stock motor mounds with something like below?

http://www.rennline.com/newssection.asp?dept=853

Anyone for a group buy for these?

Tks

Mounts can leak. Depending on how much noise you want transmitted to the cab then go with stock replacements or stiffer if noise does not bother you. I have solid metal mounts in the race car. For a street car I would just put back the stock stuff.

Herr G,
I installed a set of stock RS mounts and have been very pleased overall. A bit more engine 'feel', but I grew accustomed to it in short order.

Solid mounts are a bit much for a street car. It was my understanding if you went with solid mounts you needed to reinforce the engine carrier.

From various previous posts, it seems that these solid mounts (RS, WEVO, Rennline) improve handling over the stock mounts? The downside being a harsher/noisier ride.

I went with the Wevo mounts and love them.

Stealth, I was thinking of the rennline engine carrier reinforcement as a pre-caution with my RS mounts. Has anyone else done this for non-solid motor mounts?

They won't improve handling on the street. Hell, they don't improve it on the track. If anything, they'll make more gearbox noise and help shifting feel snappier/more precise.

As others have pointed out RS or Wevo motormounts themselves won't improve handling but if the mounts are shot then it's worthwhile considering going to Wevos or RS given the cost of factory parts. But they do help in removing some of the slop out of the shifting feel.

The mounts in my 16 year old 993 cab finally went bad and the cost for the factory replacement was too pricey (at least here in Hong Kong...about HK$3200 each (US$400). I considered going with Wevos but didn't want to have to mess with strengthening the engine carrier or the RS mounts, but in the end I had the turbo engine mounts that came out of the other car at 30k km (about 18k miles) put into the cab. Not as stiff as the RS or Wevo mounts but since it's a tip cab it's good enough and at a very attractive incremental cost (saved $800)

I put in the RS mounts. Simple DIY. As other stated, more noise in shifter, tad bit more vibration.

I think they may improve handling. Imagine the lag in the motor shifting around on bad stock mounts versus no lag in weight shift of solid/RS mounts. It's probably not as noticeable as removing the rubber in the suspension but I think it all adds up.

Oh yeah, shifting is much more precise and IIRC I noticed that right off the bat.
