I'm considering the new S4 myself. I wouldn't trade out my p-car for it though

Funny! Actually is surprisingly neutral, yes like all 4WD salon/sedan you get understeer at the limit but man you have to push it. In the wet/mud it's untouchable..

Uber, I have driven the US spec 2010 S4. Yes it is faster than my 993, but then again so is my '01 B5 S4. I live at about 6000' msl, so turocharging and supercharging is really significant. In addition, the new S4 is also quieter, and more comfortable. The suspension is kinda soft and the engine produces no real inspiring sounds. The S4 is an all wheel drive sedan and the 993 a rwd coupe. They really are 2 different animals.

If you are looking for a DD the S4 wins hands down. But as far as handling and the feel/inspiration/sole of a true sports car there is really no comparison between the 993 and S4.

That is why I choose to have both

If you can't afford to keep them both, I think the S4 is a more practical and better overall car.

Let's see some pics of your new ride

I have an 01 S4 Avant as my DD and its a great car. I'd like to get something else, but all I come up with is a more expensive version of the same car, so why bother?

A friend of mine bought a new M5 and was telling me how it was so fast, faster than a 996 Turbo. How he was ripping it up on the twisty's, etc. We went to the track and I showed him what a sports car can do as opposed to a 4000lb sport sedan. He bought a 997TT the next week.

Bob, you live at 6000 feet! strewth... does one have bigger lungs!

With you on the driver experience with a 911. Problem I had over here with the 993 was tailgating.... from the Police! and 'chavs' in hot hatches. It became a real pain. The S4 by comparison is such a Q car that covers any distance better, and this one has DVD screens in the headrests so I cant get my daughter out of it, she calls it a 'celebrity car'.

Over the winter I'm looking to build a retro 73 RS based on a 3.2 or 964, a body kit has just come on the market here, wings, bumpers lights etc... Ends up like this http://www.psautoart.com/index.php?c...srange&uid=438

Chris, That's another advantage of the S4 over the 993. It is practically invisible. It sounds like the S4 is clearly a better fit for you.

Keep us informed on your RS/964 build. That will be a great project. Good luck!

The S4 is a great family hauler and I dig your 964 project idea. Good move.

My next door neighbor (a redhead female gynecologist--go figure) traded her 6 spd. 996 cab for an '09 S4 and loves it. She also likes to brag about her better than mine 0-60 time. I've tried to explain that she never really owned a 911 in the first place but she'll have none of it and loves that S4. It must have something going for it.
