Greetings from sunny(ish) Cheshire! Despite the UK being hit with Siberian weather about 10 days ago, Spring has official Sprung!
This means time to drag 'Blusuvious' from it's winter slumbers! So freshly tax'd ready for the road, last years investment in a new Bosch Silver top battery was re-connected, alarm reset, and key in the ignition and fingers crossed!
I needn't have worried, as with even not being driven or started for 6 months, the engine burst into life on an instant! I let the engine run for a good 10 minutes, shuffling the cars on the drive before back onto the road.
I'd forgotten just how off-set the pedals are in (the RHD) 993! And also how diminutive the air cooled cars are - especially as the Speedster stablemates have been changed over the winter recess!
Downstairs; we have the stunning red head from Italy. Big hipped and a mighty heart :-)

Alongside, just to keep the Germanic bias, a thug of a cousin !

So, washed off, cleaned and polished, we (myself and my good lady wife) ventured off into the lovely Cheshire countryside to become reacquainted with my 993 Speedster!
Ah, the good life!
More to follow!
Graham

Was in Cheshire a couple of weekends ago, worried we wouldn't get there but no snow on the motorway and got there in good time. Nice cars BTW.

wow.

Impressive build.
I was considering a 993 speedster conversion myself as i have come across the top, top cover, windsheild and doors.
After seeing this thread, I do not think I have the stones to do it, even if i didnt bother with the widebody mod and color change...

Mounting the windsheild, installing additional braces and rear area modifications would be a lot of work...

The price of the build would not be cheap.
im thinking:
$35K for a decent cabrio
$20k for the 964 speedster parts
??k for labour, paint and matierals.

A $35k cabrio could jump upwards of $100k once completed!

From what I read you also have to do NB to WB conversion and it's more than just replacing rear fenders. Check one of the panorama issues from the summer about RLer's speedster (originally done by dealer) and then re-converted properly at a later point.

It might be easier taking WB and cutting the roof off

EDIT: I thought this was another thread...nvm this one has 54 pages about conversion.

Speedster is beautiful, so is that 599. HGTE or did you just add the modulars?

Hm, I think even in the USA $60-80k is more realistic, incl. widebody...

Speedster parts (new from Porsche) = £30k
Widebody parts (new from Porsche) = £8k
Paint, materials, E-coating, misc = £10k
Labour (700hrs) = £35k
Donor car = £25-35k
Wheels, seats, etc. £5-10k
Then add 20% VAT for anyone living in Europe, hence turnkey estimate £125k-£150k.

Why does the Speedster conversion have to be a wide body? I thought Butzi's was a narrow body and the 964 Speedsters(?).

That's a good point. Weren't speedsters supposed to be the striped down and cheaper versions of the regular 356? Of course it's not as profitable for porsche to use the "speedster" brand in such way.
As Carson said in reference to boxster spyder: only porsche can charge you more to take AC out of the car and charge you even more to put it back in...or something along those lines.
