I think they used the new "spray" chrome technology for these cars. It can be put on almost any material and looks just like chrome.

Although chrome paint was used on a Lamborghini, I suspect a lot are now wrapped with film like this:

I will say, I was a bit put off when I first saw the chrome wrapped 993. Reminded me of Dubaii. Although it was only a temporary thing, I learned to like it because I knew the owner and it expressed him perfectly as well as coincided with his other cars (F430, Shelby "Eleanor" Gt500, Cts V, and many others).
