Default Shipping car body parts across country...best courier?

As usual, when I have a question of great importance, I ask you guys...and if it concerns cars...it's of great importance I am buying a couple of rocker panels (non-Porsche) from a guy in California. What is the best way to get those shipped to Alabama standard ground type (not overnight)...UPS, FedEx, Roadway, DHL? Does anybody have experience with this sort of thing? Also, rough idea what something like that cost...$50 or $300 or more? They're not heavy...plastic...just long and bulky. Thanks for the help!

I think it all depends on your package size. I had some doors and a front valance shipped from CA to NC and they used Greyhound. I understood that the regular carriers, ups, fedex, ect... had limited their box sizes. You need to get dimensions and weight and you can figure pricing on the different carriers websites or call the independents like goin postal or the ups store.

+2 on Greyhound, the only downside is you have to go to them to pickup, but for large packages nobody touches thier rates.

Thanks for the replies guys....hey that rhymes. I have been looking into it a bit and Greyhound does indeed have great prices...IF you can stay within their size limits...not sure I can.

The big deal with large item shipping seems to be: stay away from having to use "Freight" shipment. The price goes up like 10 times when you have to use freight instead of "standard" package delivery. If I can stay within size limits...which are about the same as Greyhound, I can get UPS Ground for about $50 - $75 from California to Alabama.

The obvious issue here is not getting the rocker panels scratched in shipment. Do you guys think Greyhound would be less likely to damage them?

Tough question, but I've never had them damage anything. Just package them to protect the painted surfaces.

I'd tried both and UPS better... Make sure to declare value!

For wheels and heavier "stuff," palletized and ForwardAir has worked well for me.

For rockers, I would find either cardboard form tubes (like the construction ones used for concrete - if they are long enough) or PVC tubes to pack them in and go either UPS or Greyhound

If it absolutely, positively has to be there...
The only carrier that requires high school educations for employment...Fedex!
