I had an question regarding the group buy and received this email reply from Rich @ PCARS.com.

i guess that answers my question. i think that's about the third time in my rennlist career i've missed out on some sort of group buy for a silver hood crest. i guess it's not meant to be...............

According to the group buy, price should be $100 flat including shipping since we reached the Qty 20.

Well, I just found out that my credit card was billed the full amount $133 and change on the day that I placed the order. I used the code too.

They were not supposed to charge the card but to place the amount on hold until the end of the GB and charge depending on the final count.

I guess I'll have to call them tomorrow to see what's up...

Cabrio, I spoke to Eli earlier about that (I think I posted it somewhere here?) but apparently the issue is that their shopping cart isn't set up that way and they will do refunds on the card.

Anyway, he did say he had experience doing group buys. Hope this goes smoothly. Yikes. But he is local, they have a physical shop (three, in fact) and he's a real, breathing person. At least he was the last time I saw him.

I'm sure all will be fine.

Otherwise I guess I'll be exiled to 6speedonline?

I have been to the shop in person and met Eli. If he said $100, I'm sure he will make good on his words. When I bought stuff from the website and had to pay shipping first for a will-call item, they did refund my shipping as promised. Otherwise, just a friendly email reminder won't hurt.

I just replied to him and copied the original GB terms were it states that if we reached Qty 20 the price was a total of $100 including shipping.

So, it you talk to him, please refresh his memory.

Ok, I just received an e-mail from Rich. He will be honoring the $100 with shipping but he is now adding $3 for insurance. His margins must be not that good since he keeps trying to squeeze extra $ and charges somehow.

I'm not going to keep fighting it for a mere $3 since we are getting a good price, even though I feel somewhat mislead from his original GB offering.

So, basically it is now $103 shipped. Here is his response:

We will honor the $100 price + $3 insurance shipped via US Postal. All the credit cards and PayPal accounts will be debited with the difference of the amount paid minus $103 plus tax if CA residents. The crests will go out next week and tracking numbers will be given.

Thanks, Cab, for following up. I didn't get a chance yet to call Eli, but I guess it's explained now. Any consolation, I guess insurance is probably a good thing just in case. (Although it doesn't make that much sense since they still have to cover insurance with the USPS.?)

Me thinks that somebody probably didn't figure out the margins quite right and/or they didn't expect the large response.

But as cy7878 said, Eli seems to be a first-rate guy. I doubt this was intentional but simply a number crunching oops. But I will still call him.

ps, just talked to Eli. Basically they didn't expect 20+ buyers and apparently there's a low margin on them, etc.. And Eli didn't know inventory status, etc. when he worked with Rich on it. So, yeah $103 total with insurance. Anybody local can walk in and pick it up for $100 (plus CA tax.) They can only deliver 20 this time around.

Eli's a decent guy and they have a good reputation here in LA.

I'm still unclear, recent posts say Eli's stopping at 20, and I'm 23rd according to Cabrio's count. Does that mean I'm not getting one? If not, my fault. I should have ordered earlier and no big deal. I'm just trying to find out. Any help would be appreciated.
