I've become jaded. It's the combination of the '89 top with the '94 clamshell that intrigues me at this point, because from a purely visual standpoint, I think those are the most beautiful designs of each. I think it was when I realized that Mark Porsche had made those specific choices for his car when the factory produced his Speedster in narrow body and then he took it to Ruf to have it widened into a Turbo body with narrow body sills/rockers that I started to realize it's all about building a 'bespoke' car to suit your individual tastes. It's just that I'm such an 'engineer' when it comes to that very core philosophy that form should follow function and knowing the '94 top design looks the way it does because of a factory re-design to address functionality problems inherent to the '89 top (fit around the side windows, leaks, air noise, etc.) ... having said that, I haven't personally experienced either design so it would be a hard call to say one wouldn't be acceptable over another .. At the end of the day, the '89 cut and fit is very pleasing.

They must have modified the top to incorporate the '964's rear 'clip to clamshell' design to get the cleaner clamshell look and be able to use the more fitted '89 top.

I like it!
More to like: '90 Midnight Blue pics that haven't been posted here yet....

Thought I'd share a picture I was sent recently by a friend who was investigating hardtops for 911 Speedsters. This is from D. Morris company and billed as a "964 Speedster in 993 Turbo body". If it weren't for the painted grill, european sidemarker lights, basket handle and white corner lenses it's almost a double for Jerry S's car before export ..

Glad you brought this 911 up: had pix for years & never posted them.

More notables:
-- Car's currently for sale;
-- Has an '89 soft-top! ...know anyone who likes those?

^^^ Out of all the "hardtop" designs for these cars that I've seen, I think this is the nicest design and certainly the most 'factory' looking. Evidently can be ordered with a built in roll bar and additional sound insulation. Makes the prospect of driving your Speedster year round very tempting ...

IIRC, a RLer used to have this as an avatar:

I was losing my sanity, trying to figure out what exact car it was, then finally found the above pic in a gallery posted by the owner (seller).

Similar shot...
