get a cheap soldering iron with a pointy tip, get it hot and melt little divots into the pattern on the inside of the air box cover. the drill bit wont slip that way–it will make it way easier to get a pro looking result.

Andrew, that sounds like a good way to start. I'm inclined to go with the smaller holes rather than the mod I saw where the guy used a 1" hole saw. That way it will look more factory should somebody look in the engine compartment. Thanks!

Hey is your rear wiper deleted? I mean was it once there and taken out or was there never one there to begin with? I like that clean look and I know that there is a DIY to take it out but it looks like yours doesn't have a hole where it once may have been. I didn't know that some of them came without a rear wiper if that's the case.

I think I might have read that the rear wiper was actually an option. I can't actually say because believe it or not, I have never actually seen the car. It is on a car carrier heading here from Tampa and scheduled to arrive tomorrow. I hope I can sleep tonight

Another option is to install the "snorkel" or "cold air intake", but only fits if you have a fixed rear wing. Search either of the two words and you will see pics.

This provides cooler air to the engine and best if installed on a non-motorsound airbox.

Brad, I researched that a bit but from what I heard from the others is that you don't really get substantially cooler air when you're at speed, and you add a little bit of air restriction. So you lose a bit of power if anything. TheOtherEric did some testing with this setup. It seems that most are just doing the drilled holes and not using the snorkel setup which is pictured here

Wiper is an option. My '97 C2 does not have one, nor the hole.

There is no need to follow the pattern on your airbox. I used a 1/2" drill bit and drilled about 15 holes in the cover. Looks and works great! Definitely gets a nice whine when the V-ram kicks in.

Sounds like you could go either way. I sometimes get stuck in traffic at lower speeds so getting cooler air in seemed like a good idea. Also I had based some of my original decision on Robin Sun's air temp measurement. See p-car.com

I haven't looked into this mod for my 993 until reading this thread. A lot of the 968 owners, myself included, performed a similar mod on our 968 airboxes.

What I find remarkable, is that the 993 template calls for 168 little holes split between the top and bottom of the airbox. On our 968s we drilled 4 big holes in the front of the box. Very simple and easy by comparison.
