Default Carnewal cold air intake

Anyone ever use one of these?
Claimed to reduce intake air temps?

Thanks Rich

It works. ONLY if you have a fixed tail. Check Robin's website he has tested it.

You need a fixed tail and a non motorsound airbox. The cold air intake will not match up with the opening on the motorsound airbox.

It won't work with a normal motorized tail. Unless you chop up half of that intake.

Yup... I've got it and it works great. As for the MS airbox, it fits. In order to install it on the MS airbox, you need to remove the plastic chrome piece. The new cold air intake fits into the exact same tabs as the MS airbox. I have the MS airbox cover with the cold air intake... cool high pitch sound at wot.

Cool I have one too...

with my fixed Aero Kit 1 tail. This snorkel intake originates with the 993 TT car, with a fixed tail. Prior I had the Motorsound airbox. I reinstalled the stock airbox, popped in the snorkel and sold off the Motorsound.

What the snorkel, the VarioRam 5,000 RPM intake induction sound gets bit muted...you can still hear it but not as loud. It is pulling in ambient air, not heated engine compartment air...see Robin Sun's article as mentioned earlier.

But you will need a fixed tail...by the way, I may be selling my Getty Design 993RS tail, painted GP white, with grill, in super condition...I have not decided yet. The tail cost me about $550 + finish and paint...I'd consider offers over ?????

Maybe I'll keep it.....

Wow, good memory! I have one sitting on the shelf, just asking a reasonable price.

Thanks for this info. I thought I needed to get a stock airbox.

Bringing this thread back from the dead. Am I right thinking that a motorsound airbox used with the cold air intake will suck hot air from the engine compartment through the drilled holes AND cold air through the snorkel? Thus would the effect of the snorkel be increased if it was used with a standard non-drilled airbox cover? And Eric, is yours still for sale?

Default Use a stock

air box...the snorkel is from the 993 TT car. You are correct...the holers have to go, or, duct tape them closed!

Ok it makes sense.. However on Gert's site it says that it will work with the motorsound airbox.. I guess it will but probably the effect will be weakened. Eventhough you use the snorkel with the std. airbox the effect in increased hp might be marginal at best?? Anyone?? I also wonder how it will affect that wonderful aircooled sound?

There's definitely no increase in hp with this. You don't really get substantially cooler air when you're at speed, and you add a little bit of air restriction. So you lose a bit of power if anything. (I did some data logged runs to confirm that)

But yes, it works with both the standard and motorsound airboxes.

I figured, or else it would have been mounted as std. on the 993RS for example.. It seems the original setup is pretty good at directing cold air into the hole in the airbox..

I tried it many years ago and i did not like the sound and it felt like i lost some HP. i also had the motorsound airbox at the time. The snorkel i believe is for the turbo pcars and is needed to pass through the intercooler to get fresh air.
